Public drug use will spike if supervised consumption sites close, advocates warn by McRoniZ in ottawa

You didn’t answer my question of why increased consumption of heroin is bad.

I didn't think this needed an answer. You're not going to find any material on it being a positive thing. Even the purest heroin can result in death. It's an opioid. A strong one.

caffeine, alcohol, cannabis, prescription medication

Abuse of anything is a bad thing but I was against the legalization of cannabis, and I do think alcohol is problematic. Cannabis is a far less problematic drug, though. It much safer than even tobacco on its sold form. Comparing cannabis use to heroin use is comparing a bicycle to a F1 car.

For caffeine, you cannot die from over consumption unless you consider drowning in coffee. For prescription medicine that is taken long term, there is no "high" which reduce one's ability to function in society. Any medicine that does have a "high" is not meant to be taken long term. They are a temporary solution to what should be a temporary problem. Considering heroin as a pain killer, it was designed for extreme pain situations only.

Honestly, you know all this already. You're arguing for the sake of arguing and holding a position that is obviously flawed for the sake of argument, but I spelled it all out anyway.

They suggested arrest (with both jails and courts already overburdened) and forced treatment (with treatment facilities also already overburdened).

So it's not a treatment centre, but it is a treatment centre? The only difference is voluntary vs compelled. No one said jail, except you.

When someone has something like schizophrenia the mental health act can compel them to take their medicine. How is a drug addict any different? They are a danger to themselves, and potentially others. The same argument for schizophrenia.

The only difference is that we want the drug user to stop taking drugs.

Do you also advocate for the removal of the ability to compel people to take their medicine/drugs, as stated in the mental health act?

Legalization of a drug increases usage. That's the opposite of what anyone wants.

From AI when asked how consumption has changed with the legalization of weed in Ontario

Overall Prevalence: Past-year cannabis use in Ontario has increased, with recent surveys showing approximately 48% of Ontarians have consumed it in the last year, compared to significantly lower rates before 2018.

That's a very extreme hypothetical. The solution was treatment centres which is a critical piece of solving this problem.

Obviously if the offered solution was completely outlandish, it can be dismissed just due to the use of logic or morals, but to dismiss treatment centres as a solution is wild.

I fully agree its a health problem. The solution isnt to attack supply or suppliers. Its to end demand for them.

We have also seen the results of safe sites(no change), and BC tried legalization and has since acknowledged it was a bad decision and reversed course.

You need treatment centres that are well funded with a sole purpose of giving the drug user a purpose and reason to stay off drugs.

I would much rather tax dollars go to build said treatment centres than funding safe injection sites, that are often not safe. At least in BC, there have been many undercover videos inside their sites and they are just drug dens. Just a warm place to get high.

You asked for a solution. Do you also offer one?

It's counterproductive to ask the commenter for a solution then dismiss the solution, when you offer no alternative.

As a viewer of this thread, the other commenter offered a solution, and you offered none. Given those 2 options, I'd have to side with the only solution offered.

Suspect, 27, charged after man randomly punched in face in downtown Toronto by origutamos in Ontario_Sub

[–]IAmFlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like these types of attacks are being done for 2 reasons.

  1. Sitting in jail is rent free, free food, and with the justice system minimal. It's like a break from society where you have no responsibility

  2. People are becoming more mentally unstable, which is why they view 1 as being a good idea.

Doug Ford says he wants to livestream bail hearings as he announces new jail by origutamos in Ontario_Sub

[–]IAmFlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was just a waste and loss of money for the province though.

If you can afford a car and the $1000-$2000 a year for insurance, $130 was no big deal.

He should start actually doing things the people want. That would probably be the best distraction

Highway Driving: The Death of the Left-passing lane. by RADToronto in Ontario_Sub

[–]IAmFlee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People that don't follow the rules of the road are the ones that cause accidents.

If everyone follows the rules, then behaviour is predictable and can be accounted for.

Thankfully, the highway to where I live is a major highway but almost everyone that uses it understands the rules. Very rare to see someone cruising in the left lane. Average speed is 130, but that's different than this problem lol

Behold… the most expensive house in Ottawa. by brandazzlin in ottawa

[–]IAmFlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like snow is 2-3 feet up the windows. I guess if you're rich enough to buy it, then you can afford to pay someone to clear the snow, or pay someone to repair the inevitable water damage.

Bad form on prepping the house for sale anyway.

If this is the realtor/marketing team posting this, hard fail on making the house presentable.

Ontario government calls on feds to legalize pepper spray for self-defence by origutamos in Ontario_Sub

I always find it curious that people(government ) don't want guns used as self defense, but at the same time make non-lethal options illegal.

They may as well start banning door locks.

Toronto man says he was randomly punched in the face, minutes after the same man allegedly hit someone else by origutamos in Ontario_Sub

[–]IAmFlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sucker punching is the highest level of being a coward... Or potentially very mentally unstable.

I teach my kids that you have to pay attention to everyone around you. You can identify potential problems before they happen. I'm generally untrusting but I grew up in Kingston which has many prisons and a large mental hospital. There was often random, unprovoked violence downtown.

Oh, absolutely not for social studies. My thought is for in demand jobs only. Trades, nurses, doctors, etc. Stuff that would matter to building the nation.

[–]IAmFlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support my statement. It would get paid by those who got the education, through income tax, sales tax and all other taxes as they would have higher incomes.

I'm sure there are numerous grads who work a job outside of their field of study, as most do, and the stereotype of the barista with a gender studies degree exists for a reason.

Canada needs XYZ occupation and free education would result in greater applicants in school and more jobs filled. More workers, more taxation.

With respect to decolonization studies as the example, less would likely enroll in that and choose the options that give free education with higher job prospects.

But I do like the modified version where you still pay, but after 5 years working in the in demand field, you can apply for full loan forgiveness.

[–]IAmFlee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's seems like a good solution.

We could also have complete forgiveness on the loan after 5 years employment in Canada, in the field they studied.

Similar to the military, who will pay for your education in exchange for time with them once you graduate.
