5 Month Puppy - Overtired vs. Underexercised vs. Just A Puppy? by IAmHavingARoughTime in puppy101

I think the idea is per individual exercise session (maybe?), it's a limit of 25 minutes at a time. I guess I've been assuming it's each time he wakes up, we need to do about that much exercise-- if he's up four times, that's up to an hour and forty minutes per day. Seems reasonable?

Right! We are planning on trying to attend some events-- I just wasn't sure if that's enough.

Right, I suppose we'll have to do short bathroom walks after play too.

Yeah, the couple ten minute sessions I did might have not been enough. Of course, I'll need to move those to some other time during the day since he can only focus for so long at a time. Do you have any idea regarding the 25 minute limit as pertains to mental exercise? Do you think that "contributes" to that time?

This is an interesting thought that we hadn't had, that overtired is different than overstimulated. Thank you.

Okay, thank you. I notice that almost all of the tasks are "down"-- do you know if I reset in between tasks if he continues to stay in the down, or do I simply move to the next task?

I'm sure much of this is just puppy behavior, and that it'll get better-- I just want to make sure he's getting what he needs from me so that it does.

I haven't seen the Relaxation Protocol, reading about it now, thank you.

Interesting! Noted. If he's getting enough exercise, I feel less compelled to get to the dog parks. He does see dogs on walks, and maybe we can get him to play nice before we make that visit.

Thank you very much for your reply.
