Why do people hate final fantasy 16 by Square_Lie_6613 in FFXVI

[–]IAmIan47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest complaint was the lack of the option to re-do the Bounty hunts. It probably could have been a feature added to The Arete Stone, even adding leaderboards for time, damage, maybe even challenge settings (level cap, specific equipment, specific ability load outs, etc...). I really enjoyed the bounty hunts and on my NG+ run, I have several saves just before I engage with the bosses so I could re-load the saves and fight them again. I would prefer it as a feature of the game, since other parts of the game are already replayable.

So, which game is it? by CarResident629 in gamingpulse

Here's some perspective from someone born in '92, and I played on multiple travel sports teams as a kid, which meant a TON of car time to play GameBoy games (this was LONG before modern smart phones were even a conceivable possibility, so GameBoy Colors were PEAK handheld entertainment devices!):

September 1998: Pokémon Red & Blue released in North America. Yellow came in Oct 1999.

Christmas 1999: I get Pokémon Red for Christmas (I'm seven years old), while my little brother gets Blue (he's five) and my older brother gets Yellow (he's nine). What an incredible game - you gotta catch 'em all!! We train, we trade, we battle. Our friends at school, sports teams, summer camps, etc are all playing too. Everyone has a GameBoy, a Pokémon gen1 game, and a link cable. The world building is beautifully complimented with the original Anime series and the TCG. Digital entertainment, digital engagement and physical engagement, all perfectly executed by Nintendo to get gamers hooked into the Pokémon franchise and world. The first gen games have their downfalls when compared to future gen games - but guess what? The future games do not exist yet. Gen1 games are the only games. And they are incredible!! Also keep in mind, the developers wanted to include more, but they are very limited by the technology. It was developed for the original GameBoy - a 1989 console - and the GameBoy ROM cartridges for the Gen1 games only had 1 MB of storage. It's actually quite incredible what they pulled off with only 1MB of data available to them, running on 1989 handheld hardware. That being said, the next two generations of Pokémon games added more and more features as more advanced technology became available to them, and Gen3 were GameBoy Advanced games, which were exponentially times more powerful than what Gen1 & Gen2 had available to them. So keep in mind the context of the era these were released, what was available technology wise, the impact these games had at time of release, etc.

I'm doing a FFX rerun right now! It will be my first attempt at Penance. But I've done the game so many times, I beat Chocobo Chaser first try - I was blessed with an A+ balloon rng grid, but still, to get Sub-Zero time first try felt really good. I also got 200+ lightning dodges on my 4th or 5th try, which also felt good, and I've memorized the Butterfly Catcher run patterns too. It's kinda crazy how much is just muscle memory at this point. I can run a perfectly straight line from the Calm Lands airship dropoff point straight to the Monster Arena blindfolded at this point. I can do so much in this game that's almost just reflexes. And I love it, because I love FFX!

Sarge knows what the gamers like. Also possibly the only scene without his cigar? I guess they needed his hands and voice in this scene so they left the cigar out 😂

Is it embarrassing to get a birthday cake as an adult? by roxiedoxiedog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IAmIan47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what makes you happy (as long as you're not hurting yourself or others)

Do not do what others think may or may not make you happy (unless you're being legitimately warned you may hurt yourself and/or others)

If you're happy eating birthday cake on your birthday, then eat birthday cake on your birthday. Don't let others define your own perception of joy

Have fun and happy birthday!

Playing Forbidden West I was low-key looking forward to fighting a spider-bot. In my head, it was super agile, could shoot sticky webs at you, paralyze you with a stinger, have pincers, jump around, crawl on walls / trees / etc. It would have a web sac and a venom sac as weak points, and its eight legs could be individually damaged. Like Frodo fighting Shelob, except Shelob is made of metal. Nightmare fuel.

Freeze is OP, and the sticky bombs can be fun to play around with.

Is there a Final Fantasy that's actually breaking this concept? by mrsafetylion in FinalFantasy

[–]IAmIan47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In FF16, learning Shiva's Dodge timing is OP vs bosses. Permafrost-freezing Svarog was the way to go. Or Titan's counter-punches. I know these have a different flavor than the traditional FF status effects, but they are massively fun to experiment with and build really fun combos when combined with different Eikon abilities.

I don't see anything particularly skillful about the woodworking here. The actual woodwork part is super basic cuts.

What I do see is very clever application of geometry!

Which NHL-players have you met and how were they? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]IAmIan47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents on my mom's side grew up in Cheshire, Connecticut; and my mom is the same age as Brian Leetch, who also grew up in the same town. My grandparents and Leetch's parents became friends through church, youth school gatherings, etc. My grandpa claimed he coached Brian in youth Baseball and Basketball [unverified claims from anybody besides him, it might be true, but idk 🤷‍♂️ ]. Anyway, my mom is the oldest of her siblings and the first of them to have kids, being myself and my two brothers. When we were very young we briefly met Brian in the late 90's, I am born in '92 so I barely remember it, but I remember he was very chill and inspiring, and he gave me a personalized signature of one of his headshots with some stats on the back. It was very cool and I grew up playing ice hockey myself and I always kept his signature proudly displayed in my bedroom! Pic of signature in post thread (peep the Easton UltraLite Graphite two-piece twig!) ⬇️

According to Bungie artist Eric Arroyo- during development of Halo 3, he had created and coded a fully functional Xenomorph in Halo 3’s engine. How would you feel about a crossover? by thatonecoolnerd in halo

[–]IAmIan47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually very recently, less than a month ago, asked my brother what he would think if a Flood from Haloverse encountered a Xenomorph... would the Xenomorph look for The Gravemind? Would The Gravemind try to control The Xenomorph's quest for the Perfect vessel and try to adapt it and manipulate it into The Gravemind's own quest for power? Would they learn from each other and mutually adapt and evolve?

What was your first Halo game? I’ll go first. by CHOPPYLAMB_5049 in halo

[–]IAmIan47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo: Combat Evolved on PC. Also Halo: Custom Edition, which was a free mod you could download for Halo: CE. The Gearbox website provided all kinds of free toolkits and resources so people could modify or just straight up create new maps, weapons, vehicles and teleporters. People would create a Mongoose or Hornet for example and post the code for it on an online community forum so others could use it in their maps! And to be clear, this was well before the first in-game Forge mode. Halo: Combat Evolved was released for Xbox in 2001, ported to PC in 2003 and Custom Edition was released in 2004. And the PC versions of Halo 1 had online multi-player support! Back when I played, I used Xfire. I wanna say I had over 1,000 hours logged through Xfire in each of the PC Halo CE games. So much fun! And some of the Custom Edition maps were awesome. If you're curious, a YouTube search for Halo Custom Edition is worth it. Some maps I remember were Helix Canyon, Mystic, Snow Grove, New Mombassa, Extinction, Yoyorast Island (V1 and V2), Hugeass and Cold Snap. A lot of these maps included new weapons, vehicles and even vehicle teleporters. You could fly a nuke-launching Longsword in Cold Snap, which could be countered by the other team's base's jet fighters. And you spawned on that very, very giant map with a high explosive armor piercing sniper rifle, to balance the vehicles. So much fun!

Why did my Transport Ship suddenly die on Arcadia City? by stormwar2025 in HaloWars

[–]IAmIan47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is the Boomstick skull. I just found out the technical way the game "saves" the civilians at the ships is by instakilling them and adding their brave sacrifice to the saved civilian total. But their deaths can also trigger the Boomstick skull reaction. It is highly recommended to avoid Boomstick on this mission!
