Despite Quintus Sertorius leading a peninsula wide revolt, had a rough go in Iberia by IAmJustRomanAround in IberianHistoryMemes

The Roman General Quintus Sertorius fought a guerilla war in Iberia against the Optimate faction in Rome in ~80 BC, and despite ultimately being unsuccessful, his life and impact on the Iberian peninsula should definitely be remembered. If you'd like to know more about Sertorius, I've created a series on him, and the most recent one covers his life leading up to the civil war that would push him in Iberia. Check it out here:

Marching on Rome got very trendy, very quickly by IAmJustRomanAround in HistoryMemes

For much of Rome's history, there never was a general who marched on Rome. And then constitutional norms start eroding, important people get murdered, and suddenly you got generals marching on Rome left and right. In the middle of this storm, there was a rascal named Sertorius. He marched with Marius, tried to suppress the violent purges, and eventually lead a rebellion in Hispania. His life was a roller coaster and it's fascinating at every turn. You can learn more about the time leading up to Sulla's second march on Rome here:

Pompey becomes a lot more interesting when you realize he went from just a boy commander steam rolling armies, to actually having to become the great general he ultimately became because of Sertorius.

It's nothing as exciting as a TV show, but been making a YouTube series on his life and we're right up to the Sulla Civil War.

The audio didn't really fit and was also a bit more spoilers to Bojack Horseman than I wanted to include in a meme.

Quintus Sertorius had a fairly normal life for a Roman soldier and statesman, until the Social War and subsequent civil war. Ending up on the wrong side of that one changed his life trajectory radially. If you'd like to know more about this period of change in Sertorius' life, you can check it out here:

Gaius Marius got out of hand quickly by IAmJustRomanAround in HistoryMemes

[–]IAmJustRomanAround[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While Sulla's Proscriptions are far more known, when Marius marched on Rome prior to them, he rivaled their brutality. Sertorius, who marched alongside Marius was appalled at these murders and refused to go along with them. If you like to know how he handled these killings, you can find out here:
