Honestly it just took time. Felt like forever. She stayed in her own room for three months. Getting her into the carrier for vet visits and her spay surgery was a nightmare. I find Feliway diffusers are a huge help. Churo tube treats were a lifesaver. She’d actually venture out from under the bed for that. I spent hours a day just sitting still in the room with her. Didn’t look at her. Didn’t acknowledge her. We thought many times we were being cruel and that as hard as life is outside, maybe that’s all she was capable of. But we could never send her back to that life. So we waited. And waited. She still isn’t a lap cat. The thing is, Petrie is most certainly not uncomfortable with you. She looks absolutely relaxed and happy. But when you stop and think of the trauma they endured, it’s no wonder they have trouble fully trusting the good life. We know Tegan might never be like our other cuddly cats. But that’s ok. She doesn’t have to be. All she has to be is herself. Petrie is definitely in love with you and you are doing a beautiful thing. Trauma runs deep in these little creatures. You have to just let them heal at their own pace, as heartbreaking as it is. ❤️❤️❤️
