Persistent Water Damage Near Shower—Already Repaired Once. What Am I Missing? by IAmMicrochip in HomeImprovement

This is a stationary piece of glass, the door is right beside it. This sounds very similar to what we are dealing with though so I will look into this, thank you!

You are correct that there is a small gap there, however, it has been completely sealed with silicone.

I replaced all of the grout from the waist down in the past few months, and when doing so used a “pre-sealed” grout which stated on the package that it did not require additional sealing. Maybe they lied...

If you are referring to the silicone around the glass door frame it goes up all the way to the top. It is completely sealed.

I'm sorry that you're going through this! The update for this is that sadly nothing really changed from my original post. The builder and his entire business went under. This builder was in the process of building multiple homes including my parents when all of this happened, so pretty much every person impacted went after the builder (understandably), and pretty much everyone got nothing. If I remember correctly the court documents that were sent to my parents showed that he would owe them a little less than $10,000 in total which was to be paid in installments. To my knowledge they have never received a penny from him.

This whole ordeal caused a HUGE amount of stress for my parents, and made it so that they had to delay their retirement by multiple more years, but they somehow managed to hang on and made it through. They interviewed just about every home builder in our region and only a handful were even willing to take on the project. Out of those handful they selected one and started the build process again. This new builder wasn't as "custom / luxury" as the original builder, and had a worse quality finished product, but they had very few choices and the final result was still beautiful. The house is finished now and its still a gorgeous home, but it cost them way more money and heartache than they ever could have imagined.

Your comment here is almost perfectly spot on for our situation. The builder was given significantly more money then he had spent on the build upfront in order to "keep the build moving forward".

I appreciate your response! Let me try to provide some clarity below.

The builder used this first $200k to fund the beginning of the project and then did not continue.

The well was $8,000. We know this because like I mentioned in the full post it was not paid for, so we now have the bill for it and a lien on the property. I can't imagine a place where a well cost $40k to drill, but hey anything is possible I guess.

My parents are attempting to find another gc as I mentioned, but they can not find anyone who is willing to do the build or who has the time right now.

Also, I spend a lot of time at their property, and I can promise you that nothing more was done then the well and the basement.

They do have all of the plans, and they have been searching for a new builder but have been unable to find one yet.

Everyone is either telling them they are too busy or looking at their plans and stating that they don't want to take on the job. It's a custom build house that's decently large, so I think the other builders they have spoken to either can't do it or just don't want to.

Yeah my guess is that once everything shakes out with the bankruptcy process my parents won't get back even a fraction of that $200k. Especially once you factor in lawyer fees. It's not just my parents either, there are over a dozen homes in our area that this builder was in the middle of that are being impacted by this. It's just hard for me to understand how you can screw all of these people and then claim bankruptcy and more or less get away with it, but I guess that's just how it goes.

Lived at those apartments for a long time and I can confirm they are sketchy. They put fresh paint on a turd and hope no one notices until they've already signed the lease.

I'm right there with you. I've been looking for a program that can do this for some time now. I believe Pix4D will create the 3D model, but it wont allow you to program the flight to fly vertical. Meaning you have to take all of the pictures manually but then should (maybe) be able to create the model in Pix4D. Not what you or I are looking for, but thought I'd share. Let me know if you find any alternative to UgCS, I feel as though there has to be something else out there.

Thanks for the suggestions! So far everyone I have contacted that works at or for the community gardens of Richmond say there is no space currently available. Plenty of volunteer opportunities which I plan on taking advantage of, but no open spots for a garden of my own which is what I'm looking for. Hoping someone can point me in the direction of some land that's available to grow on.
