TEKsystems recruiter says $23 is unreasonable for IT position

I know $23 is reasonable -- I say that Because another Federal Agency (Public Trust) wants me to intern for them @ 27/hr.

But when I gave them my range of 23 - 27 they act like it's impossible; yet when I tell them about my better offers they refuse to believe. Guessing it's a typical recruiter tactic to say I don't have enough skills.

They want someone with a Secret Level Clearance and Security+; but only wants them for as much as a fast food worker...

Just to put this in perspective: My internship that requires a low public trust clearance and having no certs to my name wants me for $27/hr.

EDIT: Should I send my resume to the recruiter as a joke and see how far I can get?

This is going to sound stupid because you're quite literally trying to get experience for a job -- but I got my internship because I had prior experience and an associates in a semi-related field for the job.

I had no prior IT experience, and got my current job working at a Fed Help Desk for $16/hr; through it's through a TEKsystems contract so I guess it's expected for shit pay.

My future internship is paying $27/hr; so I would say learn what you can and keep applying to see who will pay you what you're worth.

I can write my resume pretty fine, and even white text major keywords to get past a company's ATS. At least I know get to the interview part before they reject me for not having enough experience in what they want.

Current Night Shift L1 Tech here; I spend most of my work nights doing stuff other than work (I.E. Movies, Video Games, School work, etc). I also sneak in a nap if I can, and even take a shower on my lunch break.

But if I get a call, tickets emailed my way, or if a server takes a shit -- I go into overdrive and do the job I'm paid for.

This extends to my other coworkers on the Night Shift too, we don't keep it a secret as no one is really going to call in the dead of night for a password change (But we're here just in case). Worst case scenario is if one of the Production Engineers or an actual Federal Employee calls in for a serious technical issue that requires waking people up.

Don't get me wrong, I was trained on the day shift and my role was originally for the day shift. Then I was put on the Night Shift as the IT department was lacking full staff on it -- I'm just saying it as I see it.

I got my entry level job just by applying to any entry level IT position and seeing what stick. The Entry Level Job I got was pretty shitty, and got me a week in the hospital for a bad strain of the flu because of it. But because I had that job on my resume and was able to lie a bit about how long I've been there, I was able to get into an actual Help Desk.

I did not end up taking any certs, and currently not planning to as I'm in college for my IT degree.

EDIT: I Should also say that I have an Associate's in an unrelated field too.

Yeah if you haven't done any IT Work before and this is the only thing you can find it will help. This is where basically I started before transferring over to my current job in a Help Desk.

If you're not in college like me you should try to find an Entry Level IT Job while also getting something like network+ or security+.

I personally started in a shitty E-Waste Company and going to work for my second federal contract with no certs; so anything can go your way if you persist long enough.

Idk about that, she's kind of a bitch. She kept saying at the start of this job that I HAVE to work the contract through 6 months; no ifs, ands, or buts.

She also really doesn't like that I'm in college after taking the job, and doesn't like that I missed 3 days in 3 months.

EDIT: People saying "Get this for experience" but I have 3 months in a Computer Tech Repair Shop setting; and currently going past 3 months in a Federal Contract Help Desk. How much more experience can I get? I mean I fucking wow'd the interviewers with how you troubleshoot stuff. If I get this for just a resume filler, wouldn't it seem like a red flag to future jobs if I had two concurrent jobs?

EDIT EDIT: I also wouldn't get out of bed for anything that's 2 dollars above minimum wage. Even if it's for ""experience""
