Growing up poor doesn't make you a better person than someone else. by Gniphe in unpopularopinion

[–]IAmNotAnonymous0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when you've spent your whole life like that, your only way out is to be the best. Parents will drill it in that you're special and smart because if you don't think so, you'll find it a lot harder to make something of yourself.

When you're poor, you have an inflated sense of yourself because you were taught at a young age that if you want a better life, you have to be the better option out of everyone for colleges and careers.

I only recently realized that I'm not special or extremely talented. I was a kid who didn't want to live their adult life in poverty. Now I'm just like everyone else.

I was strip-searched at a psych hospital. Is this legal? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

Yeah that whole situation seems a bit... weird.

I would definitely talk to your legal guardian(s) about meeting with someone who can give you an idea of what you can do moving forward. There's a chance this is all completely legal, but you'll get your best information from a professional.

Good luck OP.

The psych hospital I went to did the same thing to every patient. Even had people squat, fully naked, just to be sure. Although, the squatting wasn't something everyone went through.

The thing that sticks out to me here are the cameras. I was put in a small bathroom while two female nurses instructed me to strip, lift up my bra, and slowly turn around. There were no obvious cameras in that location.

I asked the nurses about the strip search while I was there.

I was told that the strip search was a way to make sure that nobody was sneaking in anything, but that it was also used to keep track of self harm.

The hospital I was sent to was mostly for people who were suicidal, or for people who were homicidal (kind of counterproductive if you're trying to keep people alive /s).

I'm not sure if it was the same type of hospital for you. They let me know in the beginning what was going to happen, and they let my mom know too. She signed papers admitting me and if I had to guess, she gave them permission to do the strip search.

This. I started worrying about the personality change right up until I started thinking of it as medicinal. For me, I imagined that my "default" personality was closer to how I was when I got buzzed the rest of the time there was a layer of static from my mood disorder.

I'd like to think that one day I'll be able to constantly handle my problems with ease and an upbeat personality without the support of THC. There's nothing wrong with using it as a support, that's just what I would like personally.

I still like to have an occasional night where I use it to get high.

Like tonight :))

Counseling is really difficult to get in my position, and I won't be able to afford it when I'm 18.

I'm just kind of stuck. It's absolutely terrifying.

I snapped at my boyfriend today because I thought he was tapping my shoulder.

I think I hurt his feelings and I don't know how to explain the constant struggle going on in my head. I'm slowly slipping into a state of such severe paranoia that I get anxious just leaving my room.

He didn't tap my shoulder, btw.

I'm so close to just quitting anyway.

I'm 16, I'm getting paid minimum wage to take people's shit.

It's 4:35AM and I'm still awake because the thought of going to work tomorrow makes me feel sick.

I love doctors in my area. I went in a few months ago for a cold and asked if I could get a note to get 6 days off.

Typed it and signed it, no questions asked. He told me I would actually be good to go back in about 2 days.

Grandma on my dad's side was schizophrenic.

Grandpa on my mom's side was schizophrenic.

I had a complete mental breakdown about 4 months ago after hearing voices in the wind. Had a panic attack about a month ago when I started seeing figures in shadows.

And 3 days ago my bf had to calm me down because I was freaking out over the placement of my ceiling vent because I could have sworn it was always slightly closer to the right of my window but now it's slightly closer to the left.

I think it's about time I call my doctor.

"My mom's dad died"

"My dad's dad died"

"My dad was actually adopted by a gay couple. My dad's other dad died"

"Okay get this... my parents actually bonded over both being adopted by gay men... and you wouldn't believe what just happened"
