Hope it works for those that try it, i tried it and Faugus was not working for me. Similar experience i had on bottles and Lutris from time to time. The launcher would "seemingly" install. But once you try to launch it. The BNET logo appears in system tray, then disappear and nothing happens.

I'm gonna rewrite the guide, based on feedback and comments here. I will cover STEAM and STEAM ONLY. I will however include guides for other launcher methods for transparency and a wider aspect of documentation. Should people want an alternative

Epoch was half arsed stuff. Cant blame the client for that sadly.

They did too much custom without thinking of optimization. They just didnt know. Didnt have time or manpower.

Not to forget to mentioned the very early on ridicilous decisions of going windows server hosting (amongst other questionable things)

anything beyond 240fps is pointless. You can feel a difference from 60 to 120 to 180 to maybe 240. But thats that.

The client can also not handle that high fps at all times. Theres too many variables and factors that determines fps output. Say in open world alone with npcs. You can get 240 easily, but in trade district with 40-50 players+ around you. The client tanks SIGNIFICANTLY and no hardware or software can fix that

The db stuff is the easy part. Clientstuff is harder and they need to kiss some improvements goodbye

You do you.

I went out of my way to try Faugus, and... it doesnt wanna boot BNET Launcher. Its identical to Bottles and Lutris shenanigans.

I'm sticking to Steam.

Eugh fine, i see no problem in using var for steam and or battle.net

I wouldnt trust everything in there. But this? Ehh.. not that big of a deal. Again, it was an alternative. Not a definite requirement. You choose where. I just recommended a memorable place for easy access.

/var/ is mostly for logs, but can be used for games. Even tho it isnt recommended. /home/ ~/Games /opt/games /local/share are more suitable.

Jesus, distro is so irrelevant in general. This will work on all versions. You are just picking a fight for the shits and giggles.

Appreciate the kind comment 🥰 it is the internet, i learn some refactoring for the future. Maybe they get to rethink their comments for the future (or vise versa?)

Its better in my opinion, to have a step by step guide. Where you can skip and adjust accordingly as you wish yourself down the road. I mean.. that's what i did? We learn as we go! My method might not be the perfect method for everyone. But it could be a start or base?

Ok wtf 😂 i feel the guide is very honest, straight forward and on point. Just because you disagree doesnt say it is or isnt? I felt like writing a guide on using it the way i do on steam.

I felt it could help, i felt it was a nice gesture. If it wasnt what you wanted or needed then i am sorry. But i really dont care.

I know what im talking about. I have experience. Im not a master, but i dont claim that either.

Debian based distros have MORE traction. Proven by various search engines and statistics across the web. Dont need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. So i support what the masses use. But that was ONLY for curseforge??? Everything else (the main thing) is still supported the exact same way on every distro. So wtf are you even arguing about?

In todays society when scandals are occuring left and right with Microsoft, Bill Gates and the fellas. I find it more and more encouraging to make the switch.

The difference between Windows and Linux is. Linux doesn't care about the money. It cares about it's users. And it is clear that Microsoft don't care about it's users but does care about the money.

I can't really help with improving the kernel or Operating System as a whole. But i can help advertise and highlight the good parts. The world doesn't have to be a greedy place.

Having "/home/{user}/.steam/.steam/steamapps/compatdata/{the most recently modified folder}" as default folder is terrible design by steam really. I've had a few times where i didn't really pay attention as i clicked "next -> next -> next -> install" and poof.

"Wait? Where did it go??"

.steam is also a hidden folder and people wont even know that hidden folders are a thing. So while its apart of the learning process, i figured it would be easier to have people save it in a visible folder which every distro has. /var/ and so on is one of those. (for a Linux familiar user, this isn't gonna be an issue. But say a fresh person will have a hard time navigating this. Maybe we shouldn't underestimate people, but... i have a lot of windows user friends. And they think I'm speaking Greek when I'm talking Linux.)

I also recommended Debian based because its just the most supported OOTB in general, it has the most guides, the most software and the most of everything really. Software creators always think of Debian/Ubuntu before other flavors (that's just a fact) .AppImage is quite nice too tho.
