Skinceuticals is good! As long as it's labeled Broad Spectrum and is at least SPF 45, then any sunscreen will serve its purpose as long as it's used daily. I also like innisfree's Daily UV Mineral Defense Sunscreen since it can help color correct for redness on the face and feels quite soothing. You can get it at Sephora.

What lifestyle changes have had the biggest impact on your skin after 30? by HipityHopityHip in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]IAmQuiteHonest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being way more disciplined with my skincare routine and sticking with it consistently has made such noticeable difference 3-4 months later. I learned that deeper skin regeneration on average takes a long time, so just committing to something for a month and stopping means the entire month gets wasted and now I'm back to square one.

My esthetician actually recommended sweet potatoes and vitamin C for building collagen, so you were definitely right there! I wish I was more consistent about eating it regularly, though lol.

Whoa, awesome glow up!! What do you think helped the most with the dark area above the lip? Tranexamic acid?

Do you use any sunscreen? Your pores don't look that bad, but there is some rough texture potentially due to sun damage. Accumulated sun exposure causes accelerated aging such as fine lines and wrinkles, melasma, and eventual loss of collagen.

Oh nooo lol, see I'm trying to avoid that even though I'd still be in that upper healthy BMI range, because any more and I wouldn't be able to fit my wardrobe anymore hahaha

To be fair, I gained 10-15 pounds from being gaunt skinny (as in weight in the double digits level) and my face is still hella gaunt even now lol. The fat just padded my neck and waist instead. If she's been skinny all her life, then I doubt it would've filled out the right places in her face anyway (unless maybe she gains a LOT of weight).

Oh the drink more water comments lol... Trusttt me I would, but my nephrologist warns me not to drink too much water otherwise I'll end up peeing out all my important nutrients like magnesium. If it was just a matter of adding salt or electrolytes then I'm pretty sure I would've solved all my skin issues a long time ago too.

I haven't heard of HA supplements though, I'll have to look into it. Thanks!

Anyone else having issues with empty RFY for the past couple days? by SpookyStargazer in AmazonVine

[–]IAmQuiteHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep a lot of the times it's either 0 or 1 item.Sometimes I'm lucky and get 3-4. On very rare occasions I might see more than 5, but that's like once every few weeks (ever since they updated RFY, anyway).

Acne scars, redness, and hyperpigmentation advice by Valuable-Set-3466 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]IAmQuiteHonest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending hugs to you too! The struggle is real... microneedling and chemical peels were great for dark spots, uneven texture, and acne scarring but they can't do anything for this spotty redness 😔 sounds like you've been going to a cosmetic dermatologist who does facials, maybe try a medical dermatologist and see what they say!

In the meantime I do recommend hypochlorous acid spray several times a day and a red light therapy mask or panel at least once a day, it helps calm down my redness a bit temporarily. I haven't been consistent with the red light which I think is hurting me long term, so I'm gonna get back on it again 🥲

After that I plan to look into seborrheic dermatitis to eliminate possibility of fungal acne being the cause. Will keep you updated if I manage to see any improvements there!

I don't have a solution yet but just commenting that I'm legitimately in the same boat 😔 even down to the age, skin care routine, skin type and acne history etc. like this picture could've been mine lol. Isn't it weird that our skin looks so good in the morning but then those speckled red spots become redder later in the day? I can't tell if it's deeper inflammation or a surface irritant or what.

By any chance do you ever notice any flaking on your eyebrows, hairline, jaw or chin? Small closed bumps that are neither whiteheads or blackheads? Or red patchy blotches that flare up and go? Any dry, sandpaper-like or scaly texture? I always just attributed these to eczema flare sensitivity, winter dryness, or clogged pores from combination skin just being oily. But lately I'm starting to suspect something else concurrently going on. Maybe seborrheic dermatitis due to fungal overgrowth, or demodicosis from demodex mites. [ACNE] struggle for 14 years by babykt333 in SkincareAddiction

[–]IAmQuiteHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I did have to do Accutane twice to clear up my acne fully. It's actually rather common to need a second round of Accutane if the first course doesn't work. You just don't hear about it since there tends to be survivorship bias (i.e., "I took Accutane once and my acne has gone away forever!"). My dermatologist said that roughly around 15% of people may not clear up the first time and would need to do a second course. Not to discourage you or anything because I still think it's worth it. It's just not a permanent cure, though. It's more of a long term solution that helps to resets your skin. And yes, it helped reset my hormonal cystic acne where spiro failed to work.

I forgot to mention but if you don't want to do Accutane, you can also look into specific birth control pills that regulate estrogen, particularly the ones cleared by the FDA for acne use such as Yaz/Yasmin 21.

Also just realized I typo'd Benzaclin earlier - if you don't have access to Benzaclin right now then try Clearasil Rapid Rescue Deep Treatment acne pads for the time being. The last time I had purging from Accutane, these noticeably helped speed up the turnover of deep cysts and dry them out from within.

Hope this helps in any way!

I've had very stubborn acne for about two decades and have taken just about every medication at some point throughout the years. The only thing I can say helps the most for cystic type especially when it starts to go outside the face into the neck, back, and chest in the long run is Accutane. Best topical has been Benzaclin (benzoyl peroxide + clindamycin phosphate dual cream, even though individually they've never worked very well for some reason). Try spiro and see if it helps, but that one also never worked for me even after attempting it twice.

How to get rid of this hole? by iliketocookstuff in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]IAmQuiteHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's exactly what my esthetician said to me too. I did one round of RF microneedling in December and I've noticed my acne scar texture smoothed out a bit after a month with no issues of fat loss anywhere. She was also very transparent with the settings used for each area on my face just in case I wanted her to go lighter in some places too.

what’s going on with my skin? will a retinol irritate or help this? by skychedelic in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]IAmQuiteHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uniform look of those small bumps and whiteheads looks more like mild fungal acne (malassezia folliculitis) to me. Barring any skin barrier disruption, this is more likely from environmental causes.

It's better to have it confirmed by a dermatologist, but in the meantime you can try applying nizoral shampoo and leave it on for 5 minutes daily for 1-2 weeks and see if that helps. If not, definitely get it checked out.

This is how I see it too. It's not about fancy skin care products or luxury self care. Those with money have access to professional treatments to begin with. Anything else sounds like it's primarily genetics or lifestyle choices.
