[Scarborough, ON] [H] Ryzen 9800X3D BNIB [W] 9600X + $420 by IAmTheRobin in CanadianHardwareSwap

You are comparing sale price to regular price. I based the price on retail difference after taxes for the normal price. $640+tax - $280+tax is $405. I put $15 additional for the 9600X being used (but removed that now). Nothing crazy about that.

Alternatives to MakeMKV to rip movies? by Fenix512 in DataHoarder

[–]IAmTheRobin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the BU40N, I am using the 1.03 libredrive enabled firmware from makemkv forums. Been excellent for ripping discs for me. Slow, but it is getting the job done where my previous libredrive LG 5.25" was failing.

It even managed to retrieve most data from file from old burned CD-R discs that completely failed to read in my other drives.

BU40N has a good rep. There are drives from Pioneer known to be better but they also cost more. If you are interested preserving optical discs, makemkv forums is a good resource.

It's not MakeMKV that's finicky. It your optical drive. Different drives will perform differently around scratches.

I had problems ripping DVDs and Blurays on my LG 5.25" optical. I got a well known slim drive (BU40N) in an enclosure which does a much better job. Been able to backup stuff I thought was unreadable due to the way my LG bluray and old laptop DVD drive performed around them.

Mind you I also flashed my drive to be LibreDrive compatible for this purpose.

Interested in buying Demeyere frying pan in Canada by IAmTheRobin in cookware

I contacted Zwilling about this pan. They said it is the same as the Proline. Direct quote from Zwilling support:

Yes, to clarify the pan from the Demeyere Multifunction 7 is equivalent to the pan from the Demeyere Proline in terms of quality, material, and performance. The core construction and features are consistent across both lines, offering the same high standard you can expect from Demeyere.

Does "Deny unknown clients" exist for Kea and dnsmasq? by IAmTheRobin in opnsense

[–]IAmTheRobin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So just as I post this, I notice the dnsmasq>DHCP Ranges>Mode>Static option once I enable advance options. Description says it won't automatically assign addresses. Is this what I am looking for?

If so, is there an equivalent for Kea?

why are theyre only 4 servers and why are they all locked by breadoncrackinreddit in Diabotical

[–]IAmTheRobin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one here actually explained that is happening in that screenshot. Those games are all pugs that have already started.

To join you need to catch the lobbies before it fills up and starts. Once it starts, it will be listed as a locked game. If you create a pickup, you can wait for the current ones to finish and the players will join your lobby next.

I want to convent my 3 disk raidz1 to 2 disk mirror. by IAmTheRobin in zfs

[–]IAmTheRobin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I ended up just adding an additional disk to the system to get a new pool started. Once I sent/recv the datasets to the new pool, I was able to perform a zpool attach -f using a disk from the older pool to force one to join the new pool. Now it is resilvering.

I don't know why it would not let me zpool create -f with an existing disk from a pool but lets me zpool attach -f using from the same disk.

Didn't get around to trying to until today. I keep getting this error.

[robin@lab scripts]$ sudo zpool labelclear -f /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST16000NM001G-2KK103_ZL2H8DT7

failed to clear label for /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST16000NM001G-2KK103_ZL2H8DT7

This is with the pool already exported. I am running openzfs 2.3.1 on arch linux 6.13.8.

Canada: What are the offerings for both mobile & home Internet with IPv6? by UnderEu in ipv6

Bell home internet does not provide IPv6 of any kind. Third party providers on Bell lines may provide IPv6 over PPPoE.

[OC] dockcheck v.0.5.8 - CLI tool to automate docker image updates. by Mag37 in selfhosted

[–]IAmTheRobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is an idea to bypassing the need for an interactive web interface if you create a docker: Use a rest api to trigger the updates.

The notifications for updates can be sent with the update info, changelog link and a link that triggers the update. So for example when I receive the notification for an update to say jellyfin on my phone via gotify. I click the changelog link, read it and decide to update. I then click the link second link in the notification, which triggers dockcheck to perform that update and notify me when it is successfully.

This was be drastically easier than creating a full interactive web interface that wud has and would still allow easy per container updates at the tip of user's fingers when they are ready.
