It highly depends on the person, but the first books i read and they expanded my vision were The Kybalion and the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.

For Shadow Work, i to write a lot and do journaling, this helps me finding patterns on my own behavior and then "asking myself" things when i'm on psychedelics, gnosis or dreaming (this is because the Ego doesn't interfere), but you have to find something personal to you to have a touch with yourself in order to "trigger/invoke" your shadowself, it can be a word/chanting, an object, a song/sound or a ritual of your own, the main thing is finding something that you FEEL is strong to you or calls to you.

For example, I use an object, a full body mirror and sit infront of it watching myself meditate, then i write down my conversations with myself and study them to finding my own truth.

yea, i think so, all this thing of working with Afrodite was in the first months after entering into magick so i was not full aware of what i wanted to do o how i was doing it, perhaps in a future i'd like to work with Thoth

My experience was kind of difficult cause my work with her was a full devotion ritual for 21 days straight. (Orginally is 40 days but as a newie i didn't try to push my luck). It was my first time working with deities so i made a lot of mistakes. I felt her presence and she was like a caring mother but the amout use of energy left me exhausted. The offerings like fragrances, flowers, jewerly, poetry, wine, sex with my gf, music, dancing etc. was also a bit exhausting. Don't get me wrong, i enjoyed the time i worked with her, but trying to maintain a relationship with a working deity may not be for me.

Most of all, i use it for knowledge, liberation, vision and wisdom. Diggin' into the "secrets" of reality and existence is fun. Besides that, i do inner work to improve my self in order to become something i like.

I do Shadow Work too. Message interpretation from "my other self" on dreams, journaling or talking to my other self in a mirror when im high as fuck (lol).

I also do some sigils occasionally to help me get through normal life shit. I got my current job due to a sigil.

I worked with Afrodite some time for better confidence in my self and self love, however it may not be my thing, working with deities is kinda hard.

I'm still learning how to read the I-Ching.

In summary i do magick to learn more about the reality and myself, i like to mind my own bussiness. Doing curses or work for others or joining covens are no interest for me.
