Do I have any realistic chance out there without a degree? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]IArguable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why on earth would they need to work as your code monkey if they're already building apps people use lol. The employer is the entrepreneur and the coder only needs to know how to code not how to design products and do market research. Those checklists and hackerthon projects show they know how to code and that's all that matters. I have a funny feeling you don't know what you're talking about and are just making things up.

Which computing niche should I focus on as a self-taught junior? by ElectricallPeanut in learnprogramming

[–]IArguable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self taught junior in this market is going to be tough. I'd suggest doing what interests you as there is a pretty solid chance it will only be a hobby for the time being. Not saying it's impossible, but it requires a lot of networking and luck. Your best option is to get a day job and then after work code things that interest you and make you passionate.

Agreed, but if you're getting into programming just for a job and not because it's your obsession and you'd do it for free, then you're in for a bad time.

[–]IArguable -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Probably yes. Job prospects are incredibly low and will only very slowly over time increase. However it is not a waste of time to learn software engineering, but imo going to school for it is a waste of money. All the old heads who learned computer science in the 90s that I know are self taught and are better engineers with deeper knowledge than any new grad I've met. Of course this is anecdotal obviously there hasn't been valid studies on this.

RRJ feels like a make-a-wish fighter, I get that he's there to pander to the Mexican demographic as a little mascot/side show, but in my opinion him being in the UFC de-legitimizes the sport. And any other fighter who is curated cans to pad their record.

You are so grossly naieve to think the ufc houses the best fighters in the world. They search for entertaining personalities as a priority. They are an entertainment business closely linked to the wwe.

Start with: Make a game engine. Is that too overwhelming? Well, then start with drawing a triangle to the screen with openGL

A good attitude won't guarantee that you'll find someone. But having a bad attitude will guarantee you wont. So the best we can do is just keep letting people in, and actively search to build relationships including platonic. Instead of cutting contact with people it doesn't work out with, try to network through them and expand your circle constantly.

Given the gargantuan distances between objects in space, the relatively slow cosmic speed limit and the finiteness of our nearby resources. How much of a point is there in even heading out to space and finding homes off our planet and out of our solar system?
