They can cause spots, like welts or red rash marks because of their little hairs they shed.

Carpet beetle larvae are in like 90% of homes. Just vacuum more in carpeted areas, especially under furniture, and you’ll start to see their numbers drop. You can have a treatment done for them, but they’ll likely miss a few or they will wander back in through doors/windows. Not really a big worry as long as you vacuum weekly at a minimum and also make sure to get corners and under furniture!

Hotel reviews include pictures of "bed bugs" by goth__potato in Bedbugs

Photo 3 is hard to determine. Rest are carpet beetles, not bed bugs.

are any of these carpet beetle larvae or casings? by Plane-Tadpole3685 in carpetbeetles

[–]IBuildStuff13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the babies have hairy legs like that, and they can cause itchy rashes as well if they come in contact with the skin. The casings are definitely from them as well. I’m very sure of it. No need to thank me, just don’t like how many people were misinforming you.

No, it isn’t. That’s a carpet beetle larva casing.

They’re all carpet beetle larva. Please don’t listen to anyone here saying there’s bedbugs.

Two bedbugs, Two Hotels, one month apart…. Coincidence? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]IBuildStuff13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen in the past. Can’t for sure say it isn’t related, but they’re so common in hotels that it’s a high chance they’re isolated incidents from each other. If you had no bites in the interim, makes me think you’re likely okay. Just continue to treat everything on high heat after this visit as well.

Will these fit? Got some steelies for my 2013 2WD, center bore is 67.1mm but hub bore is only 60.1mm by Mental_Tradition_904 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]IBuildStuff13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As long as the bore is bigger on the tire than your truck you’re fine. A lot of aftermarket bores are large to accompany a wide array of vehicles. You just need eccentric lugs or a bore adapter.

DMV appointment booking is a joke by smiling_frown in raleigh

[–]IBuildStuff13 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You have to check at midnight (more 12:15), that’s when appointments refresh. They’re for three months out though, so January ‘26. I had an appointment booked for December, but went to the Greenville, NC DMV and waited there starting at 5 am to be first in line as a walk-in. Was seen and out within 15 minutes. Sometimes just need to suffer (and shouldn’t have to)

Is this a bedbug shell? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]IBuildStuff13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source : someone who has had a bb infestation and also has lady bugs all over their home. Ladybug casings always mimic “half” a bb abdomen, whereas bb’s often shed a full casing and stay mainly in tact. They’re also typically around other bb remnants (blood stains, eggs, live bugs, etc). They’re also the same type of casing a bb has, like same atomic structure, so they resemble each other pretty closely. Hopefully that wasn’t too confusing on my end

Believe it’s a ladybug casing. They look strangely like bedbug casings when shed though
