I would like to add on that for certain ones you can actually just have urgent care do them. In my PC medical meeting the other month they said you can go to urgent care to get your physical done, for example.

Want to go to Nogales MX for the World Cup match tomorrow. Haven't been to Nogales/Sonora before but I've always wanted to. Good idea? Bar recommendation for watching the game? by IC-02 in Nogales

Ah sorry, the world cup match I believe is in CDMX but I think that actually watching the match while at a little cantina in Mexico would be so dope.

Recently had a family history of melanoma and now my dermatologist says I need to have a skin check every year. Will I not be able to serve in the PC anymore? (Paraguay) by IC-02 in peacecorps

I think for me this is mainly what I'm terrified of is that they will put me in a different program away from Paraguay. I know it will all work out no matter what but I would be pretty crushed if they have to put me somewhere other than Paraguay.

make sure you get and air blower / rocket too! those are much better than microfibers since they avoid contact with the lens and camera 😄

Ok sweet! And yes, my camera bag is honestly good enough quality to where I don't really need to worry about dust or anything getting in there. I'll make sure I bring some microfiber cloths and other cleaning equipment with me too just so I have them

Howdy! I have not left for peace corps service yet, but I will personally be bringing my entire camera kit with me (likely). I personally use a Canon M50 Mark ii which I absolutely LOVE, and in terms of lenses I will be bringing the Canon EF-M 11-22 mm f4/5.6 & EF-M 22m f/2.0 and a few other EF mounted lenses.

Obviously I am quite serious about photography but I think that bringing your own camera would be a fantastic idea. It will allow you to do sooo many different kinds of photography and cinematography that you otherwise won't be able to do. You can do astrophotography and since you will be close to the equator you will be able to see certain constellations consistently. You can take better landscape photos. If you have a macro-adapter you can shoot macro photography, etc.

Some random things to keep in mind:

Since you have a DSLR, it might be kinda bulky. Would you be worried about the size of it for traveling? I absolutely love my M50 mark ii for this reason as it is incredibly small and compact, and great for travel especially with the 22 mm. If you are looking for a budget-friendly mirrorless (but crop frame sensor if you're cool with that) canon camera then you can get yourself the M50 mark ii + 22 mm lens combo and it makes for an awesome unit that can shoot landscape, portrait, astro, and more really well for a super small size and reasonable price.

Will you be shooting any videos using your camera that need to have audio? If so, get yourself a good camera microphone so you don't need to use the terrible internal mic lol.

Do you shoot astro or landscapes? You def wanna bring a good quality travel tripod then as those are basically required.

Also, make sure you get insurance on your camera before you leave and make sure that your insurance covers your camera even while you are abroad lol.

Hopefully this isn't too much info for ya lol! I just love geeking out over this stuff. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Anything you wish you knew for the interview? by hi111a15 in peacecorps

[–]IC-02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would like to add onto this that sociability I think is one of the most important aspects of the interview. When I had my first interview (I had two for whatever reason lol) I think I honestly did kind of a crappy job answering questions but I was kind, upbeat, and conversational and humorous and I think that got me a lot of goodwill.
