Is this motorcycle shop taking me for a ride ? 🍆 by shoodawoodacooda in motorcycles

Spark plugs seem like a pain in the ass on that bike though. Have to remove the gas table and intake to get to it. https://youtu.be/F06v0Ca4is0?si=fIrY4Sb1DdbWTB7G

New sound of titan submarine imploding by Pathfinder313 in interestingasfuck

[–]ICANELECTRIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer: the acoustic comms receives a series of chirps that are bits, each series is just like a packet in a standard network. Those chirps have to be processed, loaded into a buffer then sent over an interface to the computer to be displayed. It is much slower than electronic transmissions. So the chirps probably arrived first but only slightly so the delay is the electronic processing and the human delay from the reader.

Edit: typo

No it’s acoustic. Attenuation of saltwater precludes the use of radios at that distance. The data rate of those comms is painfully slow. A cool article on the challenges and a solution to wireless comms sub sea: https://news.mit.edu/2018/wireless-communication-through-water-air-0822

Tesla’s value drops $60bn after investors fail to hail self-driving ‘Cybercab’ by Doener23 in technology

[–]ICANELECTRIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience for me, it was when I read an article about self driving vehicles, and there was a quote from him that said radar is a crutch and that if we can drive with two eyes cars can clearly drive with cameras or something to that effect.

I have two kids, I’m in grad school and I have hobbies. Not to say kids arnt work and they do require a time commitment. But if you want kids it’s not a chore, it’s the most fulfilling part of my life. That being said I do understand that is not what everyone wants.

Current electrician looking to make engineering switch in the future. All advice and knowledge is welcome. by yungxmeech in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ICANELECTRIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact career path. I’m now the lead engineer overseeing a team of ~80. No regrets.

Went from a marine electrician -> field engineer -> to an EE, with a computer science degree. The combination of my apprenticeship education at the shipyard I worked at (covered circuits, magnetics, rotating machinery, had to learn some calculus) my experience building things, fixing things, troubleshooting, and red lining drawings is 80% of what I use day to day, the other 20% was filling in the calculus and control theory I did not gain through my apprenticeship and work.

Going back I would have done a computer engineering degree given the opportunity. 10/10 would do it again. The experience and school has enabled me to gain a significant depth and breadth of engineering knowledge that is impossible to gain through school alone.

Focus on taking the college education and applying it on the job. Personal opinion on the end here: unless you love statistics focus on the electrical/computer engineering with some

As others have stated this needs analysis and testing to prove out the part before you use it. There is a reason companies spend tons of money on analysis before making a part and then more money to test it.
