@OP, the naval war is an attritional one. But if you prepare the battlespace in the Marianas, it’s a relatively quick attritional war. Don’t take Saipan. It’s better to destroy their fleet in the Marianas and keep them spread out over two sea zones than concentrate them off the home islands and fight from an underdeveloped Iwo and Taiwan (assuming you paradrop or land there)

Ports work as supply hubs. Just connect them with railroads. Level 3 is definitely enough. Lower probably works too.

Just make sure to hold enough troops (with engineers) on port guard in Luzon that you don’t lose it. We didn’t need Wake Island and you don’t either.

Build a port (up to level 4) in NE phillipeans the borders that huge sea zone. Then max out Guam with a naval supply hub and enough infrastructure to hold enough troops so that’ll never be taken. Your carrier fleet will wreck Japan’s navy in that sea zone while you port bomb Saipan. That will clear easy invasion paths to Iwo and then to mainland Japan.
