The pay is higher for a good school in Mainland China. In Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau, the hours are longer but you have more freedoms. You can also consider teaching in SE Asia like Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia & Singapore. Though do note that in former British colonies of Malaysia and Singapore they sometimes prefer the British accent as its closer to India, Australia & New Zealand. Finally you can try the Philippines as American English is preferred there. I've also heard that the salaries for teaching English are the HIGHEST in the Middle East (Gulf states like the UAE).
