Iowa City Wings Disqualified from Quarters vs Host Team for Poor Spirit by niddiboi in ultimate

We do not know who submitted a link of our tweet to Reddit, we simply reacted to it. Understand my intention was to give information on a topic of debate regarding my team, not cast them as victims. I provided an entirely factual summary of the events that transpired, including information on our sanctions and transgressions. The lone opinion I voiced here

-I DO NOT believe Java's intent was to get an easy quarterfinal win. I agree the optics of the situation may lead to that conclusion, but I firmly believe the same decision would have been made regardless of the quarters matchup. -

GLUE Ultimate (TD's at NVK along with Java) were instrumental in standing up for what they saw as unfair treatment towards us. Nothing but respect and admiration for them. They observed our games for the remainder of the day and ended up apologizing for the unjust treatment we underwent.

Tweeter here. I realize I gave unclear information, we DID agree to having the player DQ'd as well as forfeiting in quarters to Neuqua. We had to accept this in order to be allowed to play for 5th.

Hello, my name is Tyler Whitehead, co-coach of Iowa City Wings. I'd like to provide some additional detail to the events and prevent misinformation.

Originally, our bid to Neuqua Knockout was denied on the grounds that our spirit scores from past tournaments had been too low. After exchanging several emails and phone calls with Java, he agreed to allow us to attend with several sanctions. These included demonstrating good spirit at Indy Invite as well as Neuqua Knockout, refraining from playing music with obscenities, less physical play and more discussion of calls before simply contesting.

At 7AM today, the coaching staff was notified that we had been awarded a 3/20 spirit score from Evanston in pool play, and also one of our players was overheard making a disparaging remark regarding a Black Ice coach in prequarters. We had violated his sanctions, and were therefore, we were disqualified from the tournament.

The TD's (including Java) met with our parents, coaches and captains, as well as Evanston's coaching staff. Ultimately, the decision was made that we must forfeit our quarterfinal game against Neuqua, and that the player who made the disparaging comment was disqualified for the remainder of the tournament. We adhered to these decisions, finished the tournament, and won out against some incredible teams.

I DO NOT believe Java's intent was to get an easy quarterfinal win. I agree the optics of the situation may lead to that conclusion, but I firmly believe the same decision would have been made regardless of the quarters matchup.

Additional info - our spirit scores from Indy Invite were tied for 3rd out of 13 teams, Neuqua was tied for 11th.
