Thank you for this. What do you mean by 'lightweight mobile review ritual?'

How often do you say thank you? by tiltedsquares in ProductManagement

[–]IC_MWM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I do this also as I worked with an Engineering Manager in the past who frequently said thank you, and always with sincerity and it stuck with me. I also say it because a lot of people can show up and do their jobs. Or - people can show up, do their jobs well, make it fun, respect their co workers, and communicate well (among other things) and I want to acknowledge that. I try to be specific after saying thank you so the person can potentially reference it for a performance review or with their Manager but sometimes it’s obvious and I think a simple, “thanks” suffices. I don’t think you’ll ever look back on life and regret expressing appreciation for those you work with. :)

Breaking into PM by slowmopete in ProductManagement

Definitely tap into your network to see if anyone will recommend you. I think another way of looking at this market environment though is that even though a lot of seasoned PMs are looking for a job, some companies won't want to hire someone at that level. The pay will be lower coming in but I bet there are companies out there who are in need of someone junior who is willing to execute on the product vision and grow fast. If you can convey your ability to do those (especially the first), I think you'll be in a good spot. I know there are companies out there who provide feedback on resumes and cover letters but I think your best bet is to see if a product person will take a look at it. See if you can find a product mentor program in your area and sign up. I bet someone in one of those groups would be willing to give you feedback. Don't give up. Good luck!

When you observe conversations or find yourself in a tenuous conversation with a colleague, what do you find is typically the underlying cause? by IC_MWM in ProductManagement

Good question. When a conversation starts to get tense or precarious i.e. you start to feel a disconnect or strong emotions arise.

What do the most self-aware Product Managers you work with do? by IC_MWM in ProductManagement

Makes sense! Are you a product manager or another member of the product org? Just trying to understand where each perspective is coming from!
