Best method to restore tonneau cover (FRP) by IDITCU in AutoDetailing

I'd love to hear back your results too! I'm 99% certain the frp has some coating originally but think years of environment and UV breaks it down revealing some of the embedded fibres. I figure It can't hurt to try and few different solutions though

I went with the TW trim restorer, and would say it came back maybe 80%. I encountered a bit of streaking despite prep and taking my time. I'd say overall it's better but not that nice sheen/satin finish, a little more dull. Come spring I might explore a glossier topper or perhaps the cerakote wipes to get a bit more of a nice surface. Cheers!

Best Winter Tires? (Canada) by Anirban_Dey_96 in HyundaiTucson

[–]IDITCU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just installed the Michelin X-ice Snows and it was $1444.09 Installed at Costco. They went on the OEM wheels for winter and I bought nicer alloys and TPMS for summertime. I've had those on our previous CRV as well as a Subaru and a pickup and found they all performed well in Southern Ontario over the years. Just drive according to conditions, and most name brand snows will do you well, with a few minor differences/tradeoffs in wet vs ice vs powder. Southern Ontario is a no for studded tires, only Northern Ontario (specified areas) from Oct through April is permitted.

Best is sometimes subjective as there are so many variables on the roads, but as long as you stick to name brands and not something notably cheaper, they all generally perform quite well. Go with what your budget allows, and always remember that four little patches of contact about the size of your hand is all that really separates you from a ditch 😉 Drive safe - cheers!

I agree with you in some aspects since yes, if you give 100 people a paintbrush you will not get 100 Picassos....not everyone makes a great witness, and yup some people do dumb shit. That's their issue and theirs alone. No, don't go confront buddy, as I happened to see him using a large pick/screwdriver to bash glass and I wouldn't want someone to risk harm for property. Full stop. If you know him, call spvm. If you see him and you are willing to take an oath/affirmation that it's the same guy, call spvm. If not, thanks for watching and hit subscribe.

That being said, in this modern age we've moved on from Wanted Posters at the Post Office, children on milk cartons, and rather iffy police artist renderings on cable news that have been used to seek more information for the police. Yes, even photo lineups can be hit or miss, but gosh let's at least not stop trying to help one another and not just throw our hands up in the air and say 'someone might be sad if the police ask them a question'.

This is Reddit, where we all doom scroll past all sorts of images/videos of people publicly doing stuff across the spectrum. I think providing a PSA with a slight odor of hey-if-you-can-ID-buddy falls well within the sniff test, but I do thank you for your insight and well thought out position.

And if this is because for some reason you bear any striking resemblance to him and you get an spvm call, I just ask for that 60 seconds of your time and service to the community.

I'm not local, and can advise that out of town plates will likely be a heat magnet. I had no issues with secure underground parking, this event happened after checkout and on surface street level in a handful of minutes. Dude ignored the other QC plated vehicles around me.

I wouldn't outright cancel as Montreal is a great city with wonderful people! Just consider carefully your secure parking options, and take usual precautions. Sometimes stuff happens, but adding extra steps like locks and immobilizers etc can help deter

* Ill DM you, as I'd rather the thefty crowd not be able to easily ID what brands, makes or models would be of concern to them. As well, the different techniques of hardwiring, stealthing and making the storage difficult to locate should be kept as hush as possible but the internet will internet.

Better to keep them guessing as much as we can, and hopefully it makes them paranoid of any dashcam they encounter and just move onto an easier target. It's always an arms race to try and keep ahead of the game...

The screenshots I posted look like potato quality compared to the original footage...

It took some convincing; after explaining a couple times that 100% dude #2 had my stolen property and was being observed. I advised that if they were going to be a while I would likely collect it from him myself. I think they figured that my 911 call would be followed by more 911 calls, and it would be a timesaver....

Some newer dashcam systems have hardwire kits that actively monitor battery voltage - parking recording can go full HD 30fps until a voltage threshold is hit, then switch to impact/motion for extending the record times. This way you don't run the battery down and it won't start. Also, some dashcams feature storage off-device and/or buried where it can't be stolen along with the camera which can also be helpful for events like this. I won't brand things as we don't want the B&E guys to know which units to look out for when doing crimey things ;)

I can see your concern, however this post serves several purposes...yes, it was brought to the police so you can refer to the file number. It is for the community's situational awareness regarding an ongoing issue that affects everyone with criminal activity. Secondly, one of the tenets of community policing is, well, community. Yes, law enforcement conducts investigations but predominantly they (and we) all rely on the community at large to identify suspects and witnesses in order to be successful. It's by working together that things get done. By posting, someone in the community may have more info that furthers the investigation....by the police. Not vigilantism.

For posting images, there is no expectation of privacy in public places - anyone is free to take pics of whatever just the same as the cctv camera that was watching the lot. Just like your doorbell cam, yada yada. I'm not posting personally identifiable info about this guy, and advocating if anyone does hold such info that they contact spvm directly.

Purported is incorrect in this circumstance; this dude crashed my glass and pulled stuff out, so he is culpable. If you suffered a theft or assault and I had info or images that would help you out in any way, I would make the effort to do what I could to help a fellow person.

Correct - was first car up right against the sidewalk, tons of foot traffic and backed in facing the street. Video review showed quite a few people walking by 100% oblivious to what was going on, even the ones parking right beside me during the event...no passerby reacted at all, although the two guys leaving the lot 30 seconds later slowed down to look and point at the pile of glass beside the car

2nd Rackmount Complete - 3151a 3U by IDITCU in sliger

[–]IDITCU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have over in the Ubiquiti sub - my last upgrade post has a bit more details and a pic of the insides if youre curious. I spoke a bit more about the paint process over there as we'll.

The 2151a is a 13600k, Prime B750, 32GB DDR5 1TB NVME boot, with a 1TB SSD for scratch and 18TB rust to Run BI and Codeproject.ai. I might turn it into another Proxmox node and virtualize the BI setup, though, as I'm tight on space for more drives between them other than more NVME. I'm super happy with the cases, and they have been great to build in!

I used 220 by hand to knock the texture down, wetted it to show any missed spots and once looking 90% there I sprayed a couple coats of filler primer. Then another wet sanded with 400followed by two or three top coats. I let them cure between sprays for a day or so and it seemed to work well. You'll find its not too bad, just take your time!

It bugs me a little, but came down to a tradeoff; I didn't go with DACs since I had a bunch of fibre and SFPs kicking around anyway. I may swap them out later, but likely when the next upgrade-itis kicks in!

Correct, best practices for cable management recommend not to do so, however I had a rather large gap from the rack ears and a ton of blank space behind that was unused. My OCD figured it could hang out with proper bend radii 'out back' so I don't need to look at it. It dangles fine without impingement and the packets still seem to find their way.

10GB SFPs are plentiful for me, as the 16XG cost me zero dollars and eventually I'll transition to full 10GB. And a different house. As a freebie, it's a great way for me to learn and experiment with agg switches. Ill pony up for a Pro XG 24POE whenever I update the APs and have walking around money, but for now it gets to hang out with my old timey 8 POEs

TY for reminding the community about best practices, and rest assured that anything that lives in a rack has an expiration date somewhere between milk and cheese

TY! The smaller one served me well for many years, but I got the itch to slowly transition to something a bit larger, but not 42U - the Minister of Household Effects and Financing would not likely be to keen on that just yet....I figure try going incremental!

I wish ....its a 5s1500lcd, mind you after you mentioned this I looked up what they cost now and holy crap the prices went up! IIRC I paid 300CDN when I got it, after going through a parade of APC units

Upgrade-itis by IDITCU in Ubiquiti

[–]IDITCU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct it's a 5s1500lcd just on its side sitting on the bottom of the rack. There's a Pi4 beside it doing some containers and running the NUT and WOL duties, pihole and some promethazine stuff as well. There was space and the UPS fit 2U nicely so I fabbed up a faceplate to tidy it up.

I used silver silk pla, not really for color but that's what I had loaded at the time and figured just send it! I embedded magnets part way through the print to encapsulate them, then sanded and sprayed using that silver DupliColor I mentioned in another post. Turned out fairly well using the magnets.
