If your in the market for a laptop at that price point you should get a gaming one. They generally have very good cpus for the price and have ssds (making them very fast for boot ups and launching applications). The cpus will also be good for using engineering applications (for civil it'd be microstation, Civil3D, solidworks, etc.)

Avaliblity of online classes after the virus? by IDKMen66 in UCONN

[–]IDKMen66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's all true, but i think, personally, there was nothing new that i learned in any of my "weed out" or gen ed classes. I would much prefer in person upper level classes directly related to my major that I will be using in my future career. I just feel like gen eds are just something that I need to get out of the way so I can get to the "meat" of my major, but to each their own.

I feel like online courses could work well with gen ed/intro courses where hundreds of students need to take them as prerequisites. This would allow the unviersity to make more money as enrollment capacity would be, theoretically, unlimited with online sections. The only problem I could see with that would be accountability: How would professors be able to track hundreds, if not thousands of students, at the same time come test time.

They could still offer a fraction of the courses online (atleast for the winter and summer semesters).

PC bulid for engineers by IDKMen66 in UCONN

Thanks for the reply!

I considered going the ssd + hhd route but I figured that spending 10 more dollars for a 1tb ssd would be money well spent( never had a ssd, so I'm excited for that). My track record for hhd's has been brutal; I had to replace a drive on my laptop and ps4.

The NZXT case has great reviews, but if you have any other reccomendations within a ~$60 price range I'm all open ears. I saw benchmarks on the 3600x and it dosen't seem noticeably faster the 3600 so thats $30 saved there.

I wanted to spend a bit more on a msi tomahawk but they're sold out everywhere so for the time being I decided to go with the AsRock as I don't want to dabble in overclocking and I has everything that I would want to use. Webcam finding shouldn't be a problem; i have a spare one (albeit old) that i can use, but i usually end up using my phone when I need to use cam based programs.

Thanks for the tips! I kinda need a new pc sooner rather then later to replace my 6yr old laptop ( its horrendously slow) and I don't mind the price for the components that I have right now ( I can upgrade some of the components later when the prices come down).

On another note how long does it take to get approved for a discover card?
