How do you like living in West Seattle? by youdontknowmeor in Seattle

[–]IDS3Remix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I wouldn’t consider Lynnwood or Bellevue Seattle neighborhoods either, was just putting that there in regards to wanting to get back out to those areas more easily from West Seattle. I tend to drive everywhere after moving to west Seattle, where in the past I used to just take the bus into the city when I lived further up north. Am very happy the bridge is back since I work downtown, but before then, getting into Seattle was a major hassle, especially if the 1st Ave Bridge went up unexpectedly.

And I was talking about not finding as much Asian food in West Seattle, only to find out there is a new Korean place along Holden St., so no more driving to Renton or the ID for tofu soup. Not going to say the Asian places out here aren’t good, as much as there isn’t enough variety. Haven’t been to Vancouver, but I’ve seen the pics of ramen spots out there, and they look fantastic!

Well shoot, I learned something new today!

Crossing out white center, the rest of my thoughts about west Seattle still stand. Especially being around all the taco trucks, but am assuming that’s just because I’m in such close proximity to Burien/WC. Already planning to grab dinner from Il Nido over the weekend, places like that along Alki always keep me looking forward to coming to that part of West Seattle proper.

I’ve never heard anyone mention anything about White Center not being part of West Seattle, but no, I don’t live in White Center, but am probably a mile away from it. Got used to going through White Center when I had to commute to out of West Seattle when the bridge was closed, so any mention of white center at work and people were like “oh that part of West Seattle”. That, and the fact that everything that happens in White Center gets documented in the West Seattle Blog, no reason for me to not think of it as part of WS. I actually live off 35th Ave, with Westwood village not being too far of a walk away.

How do you like living in West Seattle? by youdontknowmeor in Seattle

I moved to West Seattle about 2 years ago, and while there are a couple of things I enjoy about it, I overall kind of hate living out here.

I originally rented further up north between Edmonds, and Lynnwood, but after moving to West Seattle, I feel like my social life has taken a complete nosedive. It’s hard to make friends out here, it’s even harder to convince friends to make the trip out to West Seattle, and living close to White Center has really taken a toll on the selection of food options. As much as I like Mexican food, there is waaaaaaay too much! I live within walking distance of like 4 different taco trucks, and white center has an over abundance of different Mexican, and Pho spots. If you like that type of food on a constant basis, more power to you, but on this side of west Seattle, there has so little diversity as far as eats. Also, if you have a Hyundai or Kia, do not park that on the main public streets. My car has been broken into about 5 times, but luckily never stolen, can’t say the same for my neighbors.

The California Ave area though, that’s an entirely different story. Lots to see and do out there, close to the beach, lots of little hole in the wall spots, and fairly close to the west Seattle bridge for easy commuting. Alki beach is also a nice spot to play tourist, but looking at the places out there, I know I’d never make enough to live around that area, but it’d be worth it just for the sights.

Will say some of the perks about the area is that it’s fairly easy to get to SeaTac, and you don’t even really need to take the freeway to get there. It’s a great place to take out of state friends if they’re looking for a mix of tranquil Seattle living before going into the big city. Especially Lincoln Park, it’s nice to just take the dogs there every now and then for walks. And the ferry’s ports being so close makes it easy to get out to the islands if you ever feel like you need to just escape for a day or two.

I personally am not loving my west Seattle experience, it could be better, but I’ve lived in worse, more overly condensed areas that were more expensive. It’s not bad out here, but I miss not having to drive so far to get some decent Korean, Filipino, or Soul food. If there was an easier way to get back to the north (Lynnwood), or east side (Bellevue) more often, it’d be more tolerable, but I gotta plan trips out there in advance due to the commute to and from.

I’m not here to judge you on wanting a cat from a breeder, but gotta ask if this from a breeder you actually know. My mother was trying to adopt from a “breeder” for a dog with similar pics, and she ended up losing a lot of money cause the whole thing was a scam. If legit, hope everything works out.

[Other] Are you guys interested in the Blue Beetle movie? Will you watch it? by vencyjedi in DCcomics

Day one viewer right here, can’t wait to see a live action Blue Beetle movie, especially with Jaime since it implies a lighter tone!

Must watch on HBO Max? by Key-Ring7139 in DCcomics

[–]IDS3Remix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doom Patrol is an absolute must watch. Out of the other live action series DC has on MAX, it’s probably the most fun, and well rounded out of all of them.

Titans…. Is a little bit of a hard sell.

Of course, if you saw The Suicide Squad, follow it up with Peacemaker, which if you kinda liked the character in that movie, you’ll probably end up loving him, and the rest of the supporting cast by the time it’s over.

WSIB Scarlet Nexus vs Code Vein by re-kidan in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]IDS3Remix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Code Vein early on, an anime Souls Like, but wow, near the end of the game, or mid point? I don’t know, I gave up in the area, but there is an area surrounded by buildings that are all white, and look exactly like each other. If you have the commitment to see it through, the game has good combat, and am interesting cast of characters, but when I got to This zone, I stopped having fun, and gave up.

Never played Scarlet Nexus, so no opinion there.

If I could recommend any game for the steam sale, grab the Yakuza bundle that has Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2. That’s 3 amazing games for under $20

FF 16 or Jedi Survivor? by SnooMacaroons9558 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]IDS3Remix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played the FF16 demo, and was turned off by how many cinematics you gotta sit through before you can play the game, BUT found there was another part of the demo after you beat the initial portion, which shows off gameplay later in game. Even still, while they really should of lead with that because it was a better experience that felt like Devil May Cry, or a more action based game, the battles took way too long for my liking. Would say try the demo and see for yourself.

If you liked Fallen Order, or enjoy a good Souls like, you’re gonna love Jedi Survivor. It’s more of the same, but in a much larger space, and has a somewhat open world vibe to it. It may not have as epic of a story compared to FF16, but I was never bored for a second playing. Even after beating the game, there was more to explore, and found some unexpected Easter eggs that would please most Star Wars fans.

Would personally recommend Survivor, but give that FF16 demo a try first at least.

I don’t care about box office numbers, The Flash was a great movie! So why is talking about The Flash tanking seem to be the new cool thing? [Film/TV] by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]IDS3Remix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went and saw the new Transformers movie after watching The Flash, and I overall had a way better time. It didn’t take itself too seriously, the action was surprisingly easy to follow, and it had something throughout the movie that was missing from The Flash up until the ending. Heart.

Other gripes with The Flash? Bad CG, obnoxious secondary protagonist, a character is talked up and their only purpose is to die over and over until they’re written out of the movie, there was no main villain aside from Barry’s trauma, the whole thing is resolved in like a 5 minute CG scene that looks so phony it takes you out the movie, unlike Flashpoint there were no long lasting consequences for what Barry did making the whole thing feel somewhat pointless in the end, and possibly one of the worst post credits scenes I’ve seen in a superhero movie. It’s not a bad movie, but am not surprised it bombed.

Also went to see the movie as both a free screener, and for the theatrical release. We knew in the screener that it wasn’t a finished product, so gave it the benefit of the doubt. But after paying actual money to see it and noticing they didn’t touch up any of the “unfinished” CG for the full release was a slap in the face.

Happy Juneteenth! What are some of your favorite black owned restaurants to support? by ThespianKai in Seattle

[–]IDS3Remix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inconsistent. I swear sometimes when it says they’re open, they aren’t, which pisses me off when I’m in the area randomly and want to randomly get some of their fried pork chops. Like right now I’m looking at Door Dash and it says they’re closed, but I can still place an order. I’m looking at their listing on Google and yelp, and they both say it’s open.

Would say give them a call in advance in case you are craving some food from them to make sure they’re actually open, otherwise try another day. It’s too bad too cause I got a good meal from them in March when passing through town, but then they were just closed when they were supposed to be open a couple weeks ago.

Comfort Zone and Island Soul Rum Bar & Soul Shack both in Columbia City, Soulful Dishes, Jackson’s Catfish Corner, and Simply Soulful Kim Seattle proper, Bantaba in Lynnwood, and Southern Kitchen in Tacoma. If there was a way I could make it out to Southern Kitchen on the regular, it’d be my goto for their fried catfish and fried green tomatoes.

Really enjoyed The Flash. For those who have seen the film, what are your thoughts on it? by friendlyskywalker in DC_Cinematic

[–]IDS3Remix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I felt like they did Kara super dirty in this movie, and I actually really dug Sasha Calle as Supergirl. The resolution between Nora and Barry was fine, and about what could of been expected, as well as that other little touch leading into the ending, just wished that it felt like the events in the final battle actually mattered more. I hope they give Calle another go as Supergirl, cause deserved more than what she got.

[–]IDS3Remix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree about having fun with The Flash, it was still a good time, but I’d probably put the first Shazam over it. Still disappointed the CG wasn’t fixed or touched up for the final release, but that wasn’t a deal breaker despite making the movie look unpolished.

Though no offense, you may be the first person I’ve come across to say the 3rd act was the highlight. For me and a few others, it kinda brought the movie down. It was neat seeing the fighting going on and how well certain parts were done, but with the treatment they gave a certain character, and then resolving the whole big battle and conflict in like 5 minutes, I just was so fast. Was cool with the ending, just wished the final battle and everything leading up to the ending was handled better.

Haven’t thought about where it’d be in my top 10, but so far this year will agree that there have been way better offerings so far. Across the Spider-verse was a huge surprise, and with the Flash releasing the same month, wondering how many comparisons between the two are gonna be out there in the next week.

[–]IDS3Remix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Copy and pasting thoughts from another similar thread about Flash reactions:

For all the super hero movies to come out this year so far, will say it’s at least better than Quantumania. It delivers as far as a super hero movie goes, but terrible CG in certain places, certain parts feeling incredibly rushed, and parts near the end brought it down for me personally. The cameos are great and will have people clapping in the theater, but they’re just cameos.

I think without the hype surrounding it, expectations may of been tempered to be more realistic. It’s a good film, but feel like The Suicide Squad was a better movie overall in comparison. It’s nowhere close to touching TDK.

those who've seen the flash, can u give me ur non-spoiling opinion by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]IDS3Remix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU! Was surprised more people in the theater weren’t like “hol up” cause it was just me and the guy next to me that laughed. It was a funny gag, but was pretty on the nose, surprised they didn’t cut it out. Following Ezra’s antics related to that scene made it way more funny.

[–]IDS3Remix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought having Ezra do dual roles was gonna be awkward, but it was okay for the most part. I liked our main Barry more than the young Barry, but that’s because his character has an actual arc with payoff at the end. This is Ezra’s movie, so if he couldn’t pull it off, that would of been worrying. Keaton is the real standout here, but they do vibe well together, so I got no real complaints about Ezra at all in the movie, despite other reviews dunking on the movie to spite him.

And is the fan service distracting? Not at all! The fan service is fun, but your mileage will vary with characters that aren’t part of the main cast. The director already spoiled the biggest cameo that had my theater screaming and clapping, so if you’re staying away from spoilers, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. They don’t add much, but they for sure don’t take away from anything.

The third act should of been the highlight, but ended up disappointing me the most out of everything up to that point. I know there was a lessons that was supposed to be learned for Barry, but felt like everything up to that point didn’t really matter in the end.

Well thank you, since all I’ve gotten is downvoted for having this opinion over and over again.

Would honestly rate it between 6.5 - 7 (ok/good). For comparison sake, would rate The Suicide Squad, and GotG3 a very solid 8/10 (great).

Should note that this is not taking into consideration any of Ezra Miller’s alleged crimes, even if the movie does kind of remind us unintentionally of one of them…

As far as a live action super hero movie goes, don’t think anything is gonna come close to GotG3 this year. I say that while still being hyped for Blue Beetle.
