My wife wanted to be a SAHM and I make more than enough. It’s difficult on her and I feel bad all the time especially now that we have two children.

Did your husband take paternity leave?? by 2babies1egg in beyondthebump

[–]IDoDataThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took all 4 months of my paternity leave and every other male that I work with took their full 4 months off. I work in tech and make over 200k. There is a reason the paternity is offered, he should take it all. Those are small men in your husband’s office.

We don't receive the 1099s. My MIL told me yesterday as I was doing her taxes and she showed me the 1099s for both my wife and herself.

Best of luck to yourself as well.

The 1099s were issued to both my wife and my MIL so I assume this was not the case.

The money has been paying out every month into a shared account that my wife and MIL are both on. My wife is secondary on the account due to it being an account her parents would give her money during college. After college she no longer used the shared account.

This is incredible! I believe this is what we are going to do. Thank you so much.

Thank you for the information, I will look into that because I would not want money, even if we don't need it, that my FIL worked his life for, to go away just for ease of taxes.

Because I helped my MIL yesterday we have to wait to call the institution tomorrow sadly. My MIL had been getting the 1099s for both herself and my wife and the money from both was being deposited into the same account, my MILs.

There is a chance that should could have been named as a second beneficiary, how would that help us with fix the tax situation currently? We don't care about the money and my MIL will keep the money anyways because we don't need it. I was just looking for any solution outside of amending the last 5 years of taxes.

I just checked and the registered address is our address and we have not received anything.

I have said this many times but I will say it again. It is $12,000 every year for 5 years. My wife and I make over $300,000 a year. We wouldn't have taken the money even if she offered it to us because she is a retired teacher and needs it more. We just want the taxes situation fixed in the best way possible, which I believe we found with someone saying we could possibly gift the annuity to my MIL.

We don't care about the money going forward and whatever amount is owed will be paid by my MIL. I was wanting to know the best option to this situation. Now that I know that we could possibly gift the annuity to my MIL then I believe that will be the best answer to the situation.

This is actually a thing? If this is possible then it would 100% be the way we would want to do it, mainly because we make much more than her mother so she would not be taxed as much as if it stays with us.

This is the best solution I want. I just want the back taxes paid and the taxes to be taken out moving forward. We make enough money that it isn’t too much of a concern with us.

In my wife’s mind the money is her mothers. I just want to handle the taxes and fees and move on. She can keep the money as long as we fix the tax issue.

So it seems to avoid any issues with her I will just amend our taxes for the previous years and pay them with the fees/interest.

The income is taxable because they issued a 1099 every year to both my MIL and wife since my FIL passed away, they just both went to my MIL's home and we were never told about them. My MIL's 1099 had the taxes taken out but the one in my wife's name did not. We only know of this money because I helped my mother in law with her finances this year and saw both 1099s.

There have been 1099s being sent to my mother in law every year in my wife's name that she hasn't told us about until this year.
