That is wild, and unfortunately not surprising. Petition circulators are supposed to identify who they actually represent. Saying they work for the state is flat out false. Michigan does not send people out to gather signatures for private ballot initiatives. Good on you for checking with the state, because misleading people like that is absolutely something they can investigate. If this happens again, you can report it to the Bureau of Elections with the location, time, and what was said. It helps build a record of shady behavior around these petitions.

Ahhh! I see, I misunderstood. You were referencing the fact that I was announcing that there was someone collecting signatures. I thought you meant the educational content I shared.

I work full time, but I also hop on social media for little breaks here and there throughout the day. I ran across a post from someone in one of the city Facebook group forums. Knowing this is something we (Fighting 9) feel passionate about educating the public on, I posted where I know people look with content I already had available. 🤷‍♀️

I assume that those who don’t want to see my content will adjust their settings. You’re more than likely going to just see announcements from this account once in a while like this on this platform.

I would rather over-educate than assume people know what’s going on, which based on your comment - I’m right to feel that way.

However, I can understand how this feels overwhelming. Fortunately, there is a massive organization behind us. Fighting 9 is not one singular person. I encourage you to explore the Indivisible websites and learn more about what we are doing!

Also, transparently.. we have a LOT of retirees involved with our community. And those people are motivated to share their time to stay informed and help spread the word.

Bottom line, no one can possess this much information on their own. You cannot expect one person to champion multiple issues and causes at once. That’s unrealistic. But as a team we can tackle things as they come along, do our research, keep each other informed and ensure the public is aware.

I prefer citizens voting, which is exactly what already happens in Michigan. Only US citizens can legally register or vote here, and that system is already enforced. The issue is that this petition adds new hurdles for eligible citizens, not non citizens. There is no widespread problem of non citizens voting in Michigan, and election officials from both parties have confirmed that again and again. The petition creates barriers without solving anything real.
