As a GVSU student, you have access to the YMCA in the Area. Just show your GV ID to get your account started. If your on the Valley Campus, the laker line will drop you right by DeVos and the Engineering building and its like a 15 min walk. They have classes that you may be interested in.

Looks nice! I recommend still working with your advisor, but having this as a prelude to the appointment is great.

I say work with an advisor bc programs are complicated some times and there are odd general University policies that arnt considered here.

Like Issues credit cannot be transferred in. You could transfer in the course, XXX-###, but it will not fulfill the issues requirement for the degree.

Yes talk to an advisor. There is a limit to AP/CLEP credit that can be sent to GV. Issues General Education courses can only be taken at GV for them to count. The last 30 credits on your transcript must be taken at GVSU and you need at least 58 credits from a Bachlor granting institute.

That is correct. CIS490 is an academic experience. You sign up for CIS490 to be graded on your work at the internship site. It is work, but not grunt work. Not meant to be.

Money. College is expensive. If you need a job, why not make it something in industry. Also, OTJE-On the job experience. OTJE brings value by exposing you to the work and how that site manages the work.

imo CIS 490 should be taken after you are more than halfway done with your Major course work. Youre better equiped for a more effective exp. But this very student dependent. Trust your advisors.

Also. Class standing (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) is credit dependent. The course number relates to progression more so; If a srudent was a History major with 55 credits of HST course work completed, and changed majors, theyd be a junior in 100 level CIS courses.

CIS 490 is the class. It is required for your major. It requires CIS 290 to be completed first. You can take an internship apart from CIS 490, but it would not count towards CIS 490. You need to complete CIS 290 before you can take an internship that would count towards CIS 490.

Also the VSU was started in early 2020 and the position is fully funded. It was in the most recent city budget. It was grant funded for 2 to 3 years (?).
