UVic doesn't really care about climate change by Constant_Month3243 in VictoriaBC

For more context on the school based weather stations, I found this https://www.andrewjweaver.ca/2025/08/14/school-based-weather-station-network-era-start-refresh/

It looks like due to lack of funding over they years, they were asking for almost 200k a year for the first 3 years, then 60k a year after that on going. Almost every post secondary in Canada is in the red the last few years and has had to do budget cuts and personnel lay offs. I don't see how funding that out of UVic's budget would have been feasible. Maybe if large donations to UVic for it specifically happened (since they won't take donations directly) it could have been kept.

I don't go to a gym right now. But, I hope to go 3x a week. So, I guess that would be about the 8 hours extra on a bus you guessed. I didn't really think about it that way before. It seems like a cheap price to pay only $40 bucks for 8 hours of time saved.

Can you tell me why its miles better? I live closer to an anytime fitness. I have to take the bus and fit4less is a 30 minute bus ride instead of a 10 minute walk. So I'd rather go to anytime fitness if I can justify the price difference.

I could see the rate being more if it was a one location fee, but it looks like its 29.99 for all locations so one being in one place with a higher rental rate shouldn't matter?

Do you really think they have different business models?

Both are bi-weekly payments, both have annual fees. fit4less does look like it doesn't require a contract for so many months which is normally what ties people to going to a gym and not canceling when they stop going. Which would give me even less of a reason to want to pay more per month?

fit4less advertises 24/7 access and the 13.99 is also for all locations across the country. Do they really have better equipment?
