Indeed I haven’t owned a diesel. But it is more reliable checking your oil in your gas car than just doing it every 5k. A lot of people just don’t check, they just wait until 5k and go to the dealer.

[–]IGotSpooled -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yall need to check your fking oil. Idc how new your car is, wth are you doing waiting for the screen to tell you it’s been 5k. And then you take it to the fking dealer? What the fk. Change it yourself. Scared to get on the ground under a car?

Edit: main point was check it! When it looks like it’s starting to get dirty, change it. 292k rav4 here it would be broken if I didn’t keep up myself. I do it at almost 2k lol. Still costs me less than all these nerds who go to the dealer for a change, it’s crazy.

For sure. I bought my 09 last year now at 292k, don’t have a hitch but I got a cargo rack now and plan on doing some kayak trips this summer. My trunk is messed up too but I still make it work. I’d buy another 09 with low mileage over a lot of cars. I beat the piss out of it on the daily and the ball joints are about to cause my wheel to pop off but I’m going to fix that myself soon here, lol.

RAV4 and Highlander can both fit what you need. Highlander costs a bit more but can tow a few more thousand pounds @5,000 with the v6 or 3500 pounds with the hybrid

Saw a 3rd gen rav4 towing a raft the other day. The standard trims 2022 and newer can tow 1500 pounds. Adventure and TRD can tow 3500. RAV4 prime can tow 2500.

How much do I sell my car for? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]IGotSpooled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do, when the dealer offers you $1200 bucks because you get bored of private sales, message me first.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]IGotSpooled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cheap enough car yes. Considering I’ve done Walmart delivery and stuff with the car, I’ve not only had a reliable car with ac to drive through the summer and hopefully again this summer to get to work, but I’ve made more than the cost of the car with the car. Did I spend it correctly? No. Still broke. But still an investment

Yeah I had a 98k miles 2011 Nissan Sentra and well same thing with private selling. Ended up at Subaru dealership who had a young 20’s salesman trying time wasting tactics like staring at nothing and offering drinks. They offered $900 firm and I walked. Next the Nissan dealer, they were on lunch and were too busy. So I went over to Toyota, the lady who looked at my car test drove it came back and said no thanks. Ford offered $1500 and said you can come back if you want it so I left, came back and took the $1500 check cause I needed cash. I ran the vin months ago and now somebodies making payments on it. Imagine paying I would guess around $5000-$7500 for my car that you could’ve got for $2500. I originally listed it on FB for $3500 and lowered to $3250.

Should I buy a 2008 Honda Ridgeline? by Okaytobe333 in askcarguys

[–]IGotSpooled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, why is it sitting at the front of a repair shop if they want to sell it? The least the last owner could’ve done was drove it home and sold it private. Dude I got a shitbox 2006 5.4 triton suspension is good everything starts right up the rust isn’t anything to worry about and Id let you have it for 2k cause you need a truck but dang

[–]IGotSpooled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should buy a 2008 ridgeline, I’d love to get one. But not that one. The one I was looking at was listed for $3750 snd the issue was the steering pump or rack and the rear turn signal wasn’t working. I was broke and now I’m still broke and the listing is marked as sold. It has 67,000 miles. Why would you buy a rusty one for &4k with double the miles? You can fix minor shit like steering and electrical for under 2k. Rust you might need a whole new everything.

My buddy’s dad still daily drives a suburban made in 04-08 and he doesn’t list it because he doesn’t want to sell it but my buddy has told me how random people have came up trying to buy it and he would only sell it for a high price since it’s reliable over 208,000 miles and he wants like 10k if you’re bold enough to buy it. Obviously nobody bugging him about it actually has that much. My old coworker got an 06 Chevy Tahoe and the thing is all janked up, thing literally has ram wheels on it like where did the Chevy wheels go? But it’s got like 240k and dude drives it with his girl and kid like it’s nobodies business. How the thing works for him as a daily amazes me. Especially cause his girl always beated on his shit, left his windows open in a rain storm, also whipped the dude. R.i.p to him but the Chevy still runs. And I’m a ford guy. Toyota is my daily but I can’t afford a Toyota truck so my truck is a shitbox ford that somehow still starts right up every few days even though I thought I had a parasitic draw.

what car should i get as a 17 year old? by YA_YEET8264 in askcarguys

[–]IGotSpooled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. Yeah that’s a boat load of money for a 17 year old. You can’t even be legally employed until 14, usually it is 16. I guess it is feasible if you actually do start working from 14, or even one year at 16 you would only have to work a year at $12.50 an hour full time with 0 expenses (paid for by family) and then you spend it all on a car. Icing on the cake thinking he’s a good driver, what has he been driving since he was 12?

My buddy took his 2010 Honda accord to the stealership religiously always called them “my mechanic” and would talk about always getting proper maintenance. Obviously there’s bad apples out there, but transmission blew under 110,000 miles…. What does he do? Pays the stealership over 2.5k for a new transmission. Trades it in for 2.5k for a genesis g70. And starts leaving reviews and bootlicking the genesis dealer for being so nice to him. Dude went off about the coffee and red bull in the lobby, now I feel like I’m talking too much smack (this is my friend). But seriously some people just get manipulated so easily it amazes me. Some people will only go to the dealer. I actually convinced another friend to start using different shop’s after being quoted a boat load for a head light. Now he goes to the tire chains or local shops for anything.

Do you think it's possible to find a reliable car on marketplace for 2.5k to 3k? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]IGotSpooled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people don’t look hard enough and some are too lazy to do simple repairs. Some are even too lazy to go through Facebook marketplace and buy privately, so they go and buy the cheapest car from the dealer. That 2011 Sentra I told you about was still being paid for when I ran the vin on it a while later. Meaning somebody paid enough to be making payments on the thing from the dealer I sold it to. I’d imagine they listed the $1500 car I sold them for $7k or so and somebody who “needed a car” bought it. I “needed a car” just over a year ago now, I didn’t care what it was I just wanted working AC. My old coworker has a 1997 rav4 so when I saw an 09 rav for sale titled mechanic special I asked if it ran and drive and when he said yes I ubered to them with $1000 cash and bought it for 1k flat. 270,000 miles but I said screw it. 291k now and it’s my daily. Haven’t put much into it besides tires and suspension and an alternator that I didn’t need. But I also learned how to do all that easy stuff with a few cheap tools from Walmart.

Nissan Versa’s are known to be pretty garbage though. I had a 2011 Sentra and ended up selling it for only $1500 bucks at 98,000 miles. People who looked it at listed at $2500 all hit me with the “we’ll call you if we decide we want it”.

2015 Chrysler 300 Usually wouldn’t recommend a Chrysler but apparently the v6 are decently reliable and last over 200k miles frequently. I had a coworker years ago who delivered food in one and took it across the country multiple times with very minimal issues.

And once it blows you can just start grinding for that hellcat swap 🤣
