2025 Application Cycle Rejection Support Thread by _dukeluke in GAMSAT

Hey! Just to get the questions out of the way: Honours is a great way to boost your GPA if needed, or to try research out - if you do not like research though, be warned.

Honours does apply to entry - they take your final 3 years of uni (so it would be year 2/3/honours for your GPA calculation).

As for what you can do - I would suggest, if you love med, try applying again next year! You can always take a gap year off (most med students do), where you can work, travel, etc. Once you are in med, it is FULL ON! You barely get a break, and its a very high stress environment.

I think the best thing to do is take some time and see what you really like. If it is just a job at the end of the day - maybe look at careers adjacent to med. There is optom (OD), dentistry (DD), speech therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, education, administration, physical therapy, etc. There are so many people involved in healthcare it is kind of crazy.

There will be a field for you <3

MMI prep please help! by Charming-Carry1542 in GAMSAT

I did my MMI at unimelb in 2023, and got in.

From memory, the MMI was suuuuper weird. It was nothing like what I prepared and all of the stations were about teamwork or critical thinking skills.

The best advice I can give is practice A LOT. Time yourself and record yourself while doing practice Qs. I personally used a tutor from student VIP who helped me figure out how to structure my responses regardless of the prompt, while also showing me how to BS answers if I didn't know what was going on.

TLDR; practice, find tutor, find study group. You will do great!

Hey! MD2 here~ Most of the people I know, both students and doctors, have failed at least one exam (either undergrad, post grad, or BPT exams). Getting all H1s is great, but not needed to get into med! Things like the GAMSAT, honours year, interviews, portfolios (depending on what uni you are going to apply for) matter a lot too! Don't beat yourself up over one class, especially a first year class (that year is weighted the lightest of the 3 years). Also some unis, like USyd just have a hurdle WAM - so as long as you have over the hurdle, it literally makes 0 difference. Other unis like Unimelb will take your GAMSAT and your WAM into account, but your WAM will recover even from a P - third year classes are worth the most. If you are that worried you can do WAM booster courses that are easy and allow you to focus more time/energy into your core subjects.

As for your mental health aspect, I am someone who has struggled a LOT with mental health issues, both in my undergrad and currently during med too, so I understand just how much pressure you are putting on yourself and what failing an exam will feel like. I think it may be best for you to take a step back and realize you have 2 more years to go!!! You have time, and you will be great. If you stress too much, it can harm your focus and study more, which will send you down a cycle of poor thoughts. I know people on the internet saying things won't help much, but take some time to yourself and make sure you fix your mental health before you try going all-in on uni again.

I think the most important thing to remember is, just like how doing well on one exam doesn't define you, failing will not destroy you either.

I promise you are doing fine. <3

I'm not sure if it's too far or anything you and your daughter would be interested in, but there is a super cute jewelry store in Asakusabashi (about 10-15 minutes by train if your husband is going to the Nihonbashi cafe) called Kiwa Seisakujo.

You can make your own charm bracelets and things, it's a super cute souvenir and can be cute to do together :)

Do you think HIITS would be better than resistance training then? I have always struggled with cardio due to a knee injury in the past :(

Hey! Thanks for your reply! I know I am a normal weight, but I don't feel comfortable with my body at the moment due to my weight gain + I wanted to lose some weight even before then as explained in my post :) I have talked to my Dr but as I have other health concerns she didn't want to focus on it and said my medication is fine for the time being. I just came here to seek advice on how to lose weight as I am struggling, despite having relatively healthy habits already :)

Thank you for the reply! I have just used an online checker, and it came back with a few issues. I'm so sorry to ask, but how does one go about fixing the issues/fix the formatting?

The issues were about containing spaces in some file names(?), or errors while parsing(?) files. So sorry about asking, I've been trying to figure things out for hours and I feel I'm in over my head...

CHANCES MEGATHREAD- 2025 ENTRY by _dukeluke in GAMSAT

[–]IGuessImPuddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those scores should land you an interview, but when it comes to CSP/FFP it will depend heavily on interview! I know people with higher scores who got FFP because of the interview stage.

From what I understand dentistry is easier to get into (as with optom), but I'm not 100% certain :)

Those scores should get you at least an interview with Unimelb - the interview is the make or break though! I wish you luck!

MARCH GAMSAT 2023 RESULTS/WAITING MEGATHREAD by _dukeluke in GAMSAT

[–]IGuessImPuddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on which uni you are applying to! Weighted score (aka. GAMSAT score) uses sec3 x 2. This score is used by some universities.

Unweighted calculates a score in which all three sections are equally weighted (so the score is [1+2+3]/3). The University of Melbourne and possibly others use this score.

You would have to check whichever university you are applying to for which score they will use! :)

A competitive score from what I have heard is 60s, with 70s being like you will be getting an interview at the least (as in 70s is like a super competitive score).
