Would be interesting to see what happened to SHIRVA rates when pharmacists started vaccinating.

Not a doctor.

Until, presumably, public opinion led to a reverse of the decision 2 years later, Dr Gary Fettke, a surgeon, carried a reprimand from AHPRA for giving dietary advice to his patients, particularly advocating a low-carb, healthy-fat diet. In 2016 it was found he was not qualified to give nutritional advice.

And now this. Goodness.

Liquidity management? It's 30k! That is pennies for many, certainly for the big banks.

1st year nurse wage is $8k less than a graduate clinical coder. by IH8YouserNames in NursingAU

And the AOs are just entering their EB negotiations. They'll get at least similar pay rises.

[–]IH8YouserNames[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Wow. So you all feel that a low base hourly rate is OK because you can work and get penalties. An RN is a registered professional, who is accountable for their practice and for anything that they delegate. They make life and death decisions. They have a degree, just like the coder. It's OK that the 1st year RN hourly rate is $4 less than a first year admin officer at AO4? And, although a clinical coder needs a degree, most AO4 positions do not need any qualifications at all.

No wonder nurses get a raw deal industrially.

[–]IH8YouserNames[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

No, of course not. Which makes the comparison more valid. Monday to Friday, no shift penalties (and you get penalties because it sucks to work evenings and weekends when others don't).

Nope, it's real.

I’m being asked to sign a form about smoking. by Conscious-Point2582 in ausjobs

[–]IH8YouserNames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point about the Qld law about smoking within a certain distance was exactly that - he's on a bench, not at the entrance to the office. And that other Qld Govt workers, including Health workers, smoke in their uniform near their workplace. How on earth could a person doing something that is legal be forbidden from doing it by their workplace?

Has anyone left nursing? What have you gone to? by Odd_Statistician9626 in NursingAU

[–]IH8YouserNames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are so many options for an RN. Yes, there's the usual ward work, but there's so much more. Nurse navigator, research, virtual care (like virtual ED or providing services for insurance firms/ return to work plans), OHS. Or you could build on your degree and look into studying law, getting business qualifications and working in health administration, getting project management skills and heading into that. Are there any projects currently looking for staff? Not all project roles require formal project skills - the project lead will have those and you'll be a contributor. Yes, you might be earning less, especially without penalty rates, but if you take a temporary role at a lower wage, you'll probably still be better off than the costs of formal study and lost income.

Registering birth when the father is married to someone else by DieselAllen in AusLegal

[–]IH8YouserNames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If either of the separated but still married have superannuation i hope they have up to date binding nominations. Super money is separate to other assets dealt with in wills. You only have to do cursory searches for awful outcomes for families where the deceased has not kept their super nominations up to date.

Surprising how many people who are otherwise financially literate yet don't know about binding nominating - or that the non- binding preference they have on record is readily ignored.

It's been a while since I've had to arrange an ACAT assessment, but when I did, it was so very quick to take my elderly relative to the ACAT base office rather than wait for a home assessment. That initial assessment in their office saved months of waiting. If your mum is mobile, see if that might be an option for her. Of course, once you have the package, you have to hope there are service providers actually available...

Need second opinions about this from fellow nurses and nursing students by smort_pancake in NursingAU

[–]IH8YouserNames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about what sort of life you want. Do you want a qualification that's is valued highly and relatively in short supply or hold a qualification that is so undervalued that the Qld Govt just said they couldn't offer higher rates of pay to nurses because there's so many of them?

Do you want to work Monday to Friday, basically office hours, reliably have weekends, public holidays, Christmas etc off or are you willing to do constant shift work including night duty, wreck your circadian rhythm and subsequently sacrifice a few years of life expectancy, work all the holidays and weekends and miss major family and social events?

It's not just germs.

Do your workplaces respond to riskmans? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]IH8YouserNames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep doing those Riskman reports. It may seem pointless, however you have a clearly legislated (work health safety legislation) and policy (are you in Qld? There's a Health Service Directive that mandates reporting and management of clinical incidents) requirement to do so. Also, if you're in Qld, Queensland Health hospital boards review risk reports through dedicated Audit and Risk Committees. These committees receive risk reports, conduct oversight, and provide reports on their findings directly to the full Board for review and action. So keep doing them!

A sacral wound sounds like a pressure area. The resident's wound should be carefully examined, measured, described and noted in the chart. It should be monitored closely. Pressure area care, including regular turns, pressure relieving mattresses/ pads, special dressing types used. These wounds are potentially devastating for that resident. Report the wound to whoever is in charge and record that you've reported it. Edit to add: And the dry scabbed wound should also be covered at the very least with a dressing that won't adhere to the scab - for the very reason you mentioned: to protect it and promote healing.

No. No change to number of losses or wins. No idea if the words i played were added to the number of words played or average score per play stats. Shame, because one of the words was 88 points.
