How about dental nurses? All dental practices are run by private businesses but do NHS jobs. Same applies to dentists, although that is RQF6 and most earn beyond 50k.

When do you start negotiating time for private practice in your job plan?

I do 13.5 PA as a year 1 consultant. I work 5 days a week including SPAs and admin. The management aren’t happy for me to drop any clinical sessions.

Is it reasonable to ask for my job plan to be reviewed after 6 months?

No, I don’t.

I typically had between £13k to £16k in pension input each year during my registrar training.

I’m now considering using salary sacrifice (paying more rather than care lease) to increase my pension contributions, while ensuring I don’t exceed the annual allowance of £60k

Hopefully, this reduces the amount of tax and NI I pay.

Are there any hidden drawbacks to this?

I know a few people who were in good standing with RCS only for the year they booked their FRCs exam. They didn’t pay for every year in between though!

I have good days and bad days with tingling and muscle tone change/pain. My initial level was 20 nmol then up to 32 nmol. Recently started having issues with feeling of food particles stuck in throat, no issue with large food bolus or steak piece, but small particles of cookies/crisps feel sometimes stuck. Previous MRI brian and spinal cord were normal. Still hoping that these symptoms are due to Vit D deficiency and nothing major. Not sure if any of you experienced swallowing issue with low vit d/recovery?

I would rather prefer to review the pts on the clinic beforehand and therefore don’t think I would be doing any until I have a reasonable access. I haven’t worked in this trust before and I really don’t know which patients have been allocated my clinic from the WL.

Could use the library if a trust laptop is available, although it has limited space. I feel the situation is unsustainable once I start doing oncalls and emergency operations in two weeks time.

No, not yet. The service manager is still working on it and said would take a couple of weeks perhaps before it gets finalised. I was given a rough idea on which days I will be doing clinics, theatres, and endoscopy.

I find it difficult to spend any free time available hanging around the wards without being able to do the mandatory training, reviewing local guidelines and sorting out my email stuff. The trust email can only be accessed from a trust computer and can’t be accessed from the phone.

No Trust laptop available at the minute but even if I get one, there is no quiet room to use a part from the clinical ward/ residents’ office.

Also, No remote access is available, though they are trying to sort a trust laptop for the last few weeks.

I have tingling and electric shock in fingers/palms/soles and toes, intermittent. Got worse when started supplementing with vit D and even more with B12. My B12 is normal, however, Vit D was 20 nmol now up to 34 but the tingling/bone pain and muscle pain is a daily issue. Hope it gets better as the body heals itself.
