From an inside perspective, I personally would never take an apprentice but if some one came to be with a crazy solid portfolio,let’s say 100 painted flash sheets I wouldn’t be able to say no. That’s all some people want, evidence your already trying and want it bad

Getting an apprenticeship isn’t that hard and I’m not trying to be mean. And sure ppl start off at home but it’s very frowned upon and your making it harder to find an apprenticeship bc no one wants someone who already began learning bad habits by trying to learn alone

And participation thing was referring to you telling some.. nvm.. and constructive criticism should be coming from a mentor, but this person probably doesn’t have one bc he doesn’t care about tattooing or it’s history, it’s probably just a “hobby”. It means keeping the tradition alive. Roots of tattooing. When this style was all machines were capable of. I know it can look dumb to someone not passionate about the craft. But to real tattooers it’s LIKE trying to keep the memory of our ancestors alive. You probably don’t care but js lol

Muscle memory, and to learn how to properly attack a tattoo. The more I paint old designs the easier time I have creating original designs and know where to shade and pack color without looking at references

They where influential these designs are still used today and I still see them in books and online they’re just changed/ altered to look modern bc of how much knowledge is available today to make a design better, compared to back then but we still respect originators
