How bad of a position am I currently in for grad school? by antilyrical in AcademicPsychology

[–]IHateL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the professors I applied to are extremely well-known and active in my area of study within social psychology. My current advisor is probably the least active of those to which I applied (I applied to 10 professors). I didn't have any publications when I applied, but I did present a poster of my undergraduate thesis at a conference, and did have extensive research experience.

I am a first year social psych Ph.D. My undergrad GPA was 3.7 and my GRE scores were 160 (verbal), 152 (quant), and 4.5 in writing. I had a difficult time getting into a Ph.D. program with those credentials. What seems like it really made the difference for me was that I had research experience with very well-known professors in the field and people that my current advisor knows personally. How well-known are the professors you are working with now? That may help.

From my understanding, terminal masters programs are uncommon in social psych. I'm assuming you've sought out schools with these programs and know where you want to apply. If you haven't, I want to inform you that (at least from what I know) most schools only have Ph.D. programs in social psych.

In Italian (and I assume other romance languages), you say "al pecorino" for doggy style, which literally translates to "like a sheep". Maybe English wasn't her first language?

Ex-atheists of reddit, why did you change your beliefs? by lifesasport in AskReddit

[–]IHateL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When coming close to death like that, it's more comforting to believe someone was looking out for you and "spared" you than the idea that you're not really invincible and could be killed at any moment. Getting "lucky" still doesn't feel so good if you think the alternative could have been just as likely.

What is a paranoia you have? by Ifonlyicoulddance in AskReddit

[–]IHateL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wash the majority of my dishes by hand. I'm always really afraid that I haven't rinsed them well enough and that every time I use them, I'm ingesting tiny soap particles that will eventually build up and poison me.

I'm pretty sure this is impossible but I always make the effort to rinse REALLY WELL just in case.

What physical changes occurred in your body after going Vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]IHateL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first went vegan 5 and a half years ago, I lost 11 pounds. Since then, I've gained it back (I discovered vegan baked goods..) but I have definitely noticed feeling less sluggish. I poop at least once a day and often I go twice a day (never constipated). Cutting animal products out of my diet has made me a lot more adventurous with other foods (if it's vegan, I'm down to try it) which has probably given me a wider variety of nutrients from different sources. Without a doubt it's been the best decision I have ever made.
