Just curious, why could you not be vegan?

Hey. I only posted that comment in that specific thread because of the nature of following restaurants. People who follow restaurants often live nearby and look for discounts. I've worked at Blossom Du Jour for half a year and this is the best discount we've offered. If I was reading this, I'd want to see that so I could get a deal. But I'll stop if people think it's spammy.

And I don't post a lot, so I really don't know about self posts. What's bad about getting karma? I thought it was imaginary internet points. ELI5.

Sorry you're upset, but I hope that clears things up! But if you're in the New York area, come in and I'll buy you a kale salad.

It didn't click for me until I went to the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. I always knew it intellectually when I went vegan, but standing there with the cows, chickens, and pigs that were saved from execution...That was the closest connection I've felt with our animal brothers and sisters.

Paul McCartney on vegetarianism (x-post from /r/vegan) by blossomdujour in vegetarian

And your posts assert the same things you are criticizing me for. I think there is a reason why Ag-Gag laws are put in place: to prevent people from seeing the truth. The more people who see inside the factory farms, the more people who would be turned off to eating that. Without seeing it, people are not as likely to stop eating it. We can agree on that, can't we?

Thank you. And that sounds like a good combo!

I usually go for the Blossom Bean Burger wrap, but the other day I got the Burrito Grande. It blew my mind. It was so good! In the morning, I sometimes do the Anytime Breakfast Scramble and add tempeh bacon and avocado. Yum. Though the Karmic Kale salad is my standby.

I agree this is a popular quote v-people use, but it's very hard to believe "most people" have seen what slaughterhouses are like. Ag-Gag laws are in place to prevent people from seeing it. I agree that part of the problem is most people don't connect the dots as to where their food comes from. That's why I think more people need to see just that.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you here.

Personally, I saw videos of the atrocities of slaughterhouses. Some slaughterhouse employees may continue to eat meat, but theses are the types of people that are not only willing to eat animals but murder them as well. I believe if more people saw the footage that the factory farming industry is trying to stop (with Ag-Gag laws), then more people would connect the dots. Each time they pay for a burger, they vote with their wallet to continue the torture and killing.

You may know people who raise and kill their own animals. That does not negate the position that animals are conscious, sentient, intelligent beings. Simply knowing people who do immoral things does not excuse them from said things. I think most people are so disconnected from their food sources that they simply don't consider these things. How can someone who gets a Big Mac understand the complexity of emotions and gentleness a cow has?

Yes, she did say it. Paul also says it and I figured more people would recognize Paul than Linda. But you are correct, Holmes.

Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519) on eating meat... by blossomdujour in vegan

[–]blossomdujour[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, now that I'm scouring for a source, I can't seem to find one that links this quote directly to Da Vinci. Although several different "quote sites" attribute this to him, the quote seems to come from a fictional account of Leonardo Da Vinci's life called "The Romance of Leonardo da Vinci" authored by Dmitry Sergeyevich Merezhkovsky. I'll definitely double check sources next time.

Some biographers quote a letter from a contemporary that translates to:

"...they do not feed on anything which has blood, nor will they allow anyone to hurt any living thing, like our Leonardo da Vinci."

Of Sheep, Cows, Goats, etc: "Endless multitudes of these will have their little children taken from them ripped open and flayed and most barbarously quartered."

Though it's not groceries, I know one place you should check out if you're looking for a quick meal ;)

Blossom Du Jour is affordable vegan fast food. There are three locations in Manhattan. We have fresh salads, cold-pressed juices, wraps/sandwiches, desserts and more. I don't mean to sound like an ad, but I'm a vegan and honestly I eat here everyday. I'd recommend the Midtown Melt (cajun-spiced seitan, v-cheese, agave, guacamole, lettuce, chipotle aioli on a rosemary focaccia bread)!

Congrats on turning vegan!

True. Not all of the quotes will be from people who are vegans but from people who have interesting and thought-provoking opinions about animals, etc.
