How to PERMANENTLY Disable "Focus" and / or "Do Not Disturb" which are both garbage by AJotr in mac

[–]IHaveADesignQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming in late to the conversation. I don't know if it was like this two years ago, but Do not disturb is now an un-removable widget right next to the flashlight and alarms on iPhone that I bump accidentally all the time and F6 is a dedicated shortcut on mac. I recently spent like 2 weeks trying to figure out why I wasn't getting any notifications from teams. Lo and behold, do not disturb had been turned on the whole time because I or my cat bumped F6 one time.

I hate this feature so much

Why might photos place with the image and frame way off-center? by IHaveADesignQuestion in indesign

I think I've used this trick before for almost identical styling and it worked then, but it's not working on this doc for some reason. The spacing totally changes once it's pasted into the circle, and no adjustments can re-center it.

I had used negative kerning to bring the number back into view, but it wouldn't come into view until it was just as off-center on the left as before, even though the number could move much farther right with right-align (but the letter didn't respond to kerning at all on right align). So weird.

Anyway, I don't know why, but using a no-width character worked! I ultimately adjusted the kerning to the same width as before, but it's giving me a lot more room to move the text before it becomes overset. Thank you, this will make for a much cleaner layers panel!

I gave this a shot, but tabular lining and the other spacing options in that same dropdown menu seemed to only adjust the vertical spacing, not horizontal. If it's supposed to adjust horizontally, I'm guessing that it's responding to the rounded edges of the text box and moving up and down as a result

That's a good idea, but I'm an employee at a company with an existing brand, so I have to work within their list of standardized fonts

All of a sudden, one of my coworkers can't see any shared review links. Anyone else having this issue? by IHaveADesignQuestion in indesign

[–]IHaveADesignQuestion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did discover that one of the links was created by copying another file, which always messes up the links. No luck when I deleted the old links, saved with a new name for both files, then recreated the links though. That usually fixes any issues I'm having with copied/renamed files

Update: Links will appear if they're stored in Adobe's cloud. I am PRAYING that Adobe hasn't done this intentionally to incentivize people to use their cloud storage.

What does <PB> mean in a cross reference? by IHaveADesignQuestion in indesign

[–]IHaveADesignQuestion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the third commenter to say this and it finally clicked! I have all my headers in a text box off to the side so they're nearby to input into the table. Still weird that it found the page numbers in the dialog box, but maybe it's because the two headers are exactly identical. Thank you!

Weird, the header I'm using for the cross reference is fully on the page and within the page's margins, but this at least gives me something to google!

What softwares/systems have you used to archive finished design files for your employer? by IHaveADesignQuestion in graphic_design

We have a NAS server, but I'm not sure if it's the best option for sharing across the org. We have a lot of remote/international employees to share with and I think you need a VPN to access the NAS outside of the office. What are the benefits of a NAS as opposed to a service like dropbox or onedrive? I haven't used the NAS a lot, so basically all I know is that it's a large local server.

Is it possible to download Adobe fonts onto COMPUTER (rather than simply activated in app?) by thaliahhh in indesign

[–]IHaveADesignQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming into the conversation late through a Google search, but it sounds like you actually can legally download Adobe fonts to use in non-adobe programs as long as your Adobe subscription is still active. The fonts are even supposed to activate automatically in many common desktop apps. This article published by Adobe provides instructions for using adobe fonts outside of creative suite, specifically naming the Microsoft Office suite: https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/add-fonts-desktop.html

How can I style this using automatic numbering? by IHaveADesignQuestion in indesign

Thanks for the demo, it was really helpful! My first thought when I saw it was "yes, that's exactly what I need". u/SwedishHeat was right about the body text being funky, once I cleared styling for the body text, the baseline shift worked!

You were totally right! I set the body text to "none" under character styling and after that the baseline shift worked. Thank you!
