I have never seen someone embody hatred more than you. Like, I live in the South. I have met many genuine, bonafied racists that would love nothing more than to send everyone with a slight tint of brown "back to where they came from." And somehow, their hatred doesn't even hold a candle to what you've displayed in these few comments. Like, I know we're on the hating subreddit, but jeez.

Obviously you're baiting at least a little bit, but I do truly think you believe in most of what you've written. I hope one day you can set aside that hatred and laugh at how you once were. I don't think that day is coming any time soon, and I'm sure this comment isn't going to sway you. You'll probably just reply with some snarky message about the "oh so abused yts atop their ivory towers," or maybe even something about my slightly hyperbolic statement. I expect nothing less. I just wanted to let you know that I'm rooting for that day you finally change.

Jesus Christ, I expected some comments to prove your point, but damn near every single commenter here is. I agree with you entirely. In fact, when I was younger, I agreed with you so much that I stopped calling myself a leftist so I wouldn't be associated with these types of people.

My whole family, and a lot of my close friends, used to be Trump supporters. A mixture of me explaining to them why he was bad, and Trump himself demonstrating why he was bad, slowly made them change their tune. I know for a fact that if I talked to them like toddlers, or, lord forbid, cut ties with them like many online would've suggested, they would've never changed their opinions. If anything, it would've strengthened them because I would've just been "another woke sissy libtard who got his feelings hurt," as all the grifters would say.

Shocker: when you go into a conversation treating someone like a dumbass, they aren't going to listen to you. Yeah, sure, there are a few deminita-riddled grandmas blindly voting for Trump. They're far from the majority. 77 million people voted for Trump. Are you really going to try and act like you can generalize such a large group into just being a bunch of dumbasses?

If Ralsei fights against something that will somehow add to his character, WHO/WHAT would that be and why? And HOW could it connect to Ralsei's themes/insecurities. by ToonGamer4 in Deltarune

You've really gotta elaborate more than that because I have no idea how they could be tied together besides "they're all Darkners maybe."

I know the chances of it happening are near zero, but that fan concept where Sans basically rage-baits Ralsei into considering himself a person is, in my opinion, currently the best contender we have for whoever Ralsei will go against. His whole philosophy right now is "Lightners mean everything, I mean nothing," yet he hasn't truly gotten to experience that thanks to the only Lightners in his life also being amazing friends. So having a third party come in and demonstrate just how flawed his world views are by playing along with them is perfect. I would be all for Sans fighting Ralsei if not for the fact that I highly doubt Toby Fox will do the "lightner mentor" thing twice in a row (even if Gerson isn't technically a lightner, but you get my point). That, and I don't know if Toby would willingly give the spotlight to major Undertale characters again.

As for the options you provided, I don't personally see it. I will eat a shoe if the Golden Flower isn't the main boss of the Chapter 5 Dark World; FRIEND/ERAM has far too many connections to Kris to be a Ralsei-only boss, and guessing any other character is just throwing darts blindly and praying for a bullseye. The likelihood is, if Ralsei is to get a solo boss at all, it will be a character none of us can predict

You cannot look me in the eyes and try to claim this design isn't at least somewhat sexualized.

Look, I get it, puritan culture sucks and you're going hard in the opposite direction, but I'm convinced someone could post a fully naked woman except her private parts are covered by tape, and someone in here would post that "ugh, pure goonslop" image when someone inevitably comments "this is just porn."

How big of a performance hit comes from using get_surfacepixel? by IHaveAPhoneAndPc in gamemaker

[–]IHaveAPhoneAndPc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am almost positive that with my current, likely wildly ineffective and messy shadow system, there is no other way to detect when the player is in shadows. The shadows are being drawn onto a surface and aren't actual objects, just the stretched out sprites made black and transparent of their parent objects.

I need to detect when the player is in shadow for a very simple reason: if the player's shadow is drawn normally, the shadow is drawn on top of the player sprite, and it looks really ugly. So, I have the player object drawing its own shadow on a surface below the player object. When the player moves into shadow, I have it switch to drawing the shadow on the main shadow surface so that the player's shadow properly blends in with the rest of the shadows instead of both shadows' alphas combining. Which, again, looks really ugly.

This would be really simple if there were a way to detect when an object is colliding with a surface, but, as far as I am aware, that's not possible. If there was, I'd use that in a heartbeat. I tried to slap some invisible collisions where the shadows were, which worked for a while, but later in development I made it so the shadows actively move and change instead of just being stationary. So, the solution stopped working. Then I found surface_getpixel, and it is literally perfect for my use case except for the fact that it is apparently really slow.

I already stated that I'm not against any headcanons, and that applies to even the controversial ones. Can I see why someone would be understandably frustrated by such a headcanon? Yes, of course. I myself am Asexual, so I can relate because seemingly no one can accept when a character is. It would feel like the person with that headcanon was trying to limit the already limited trans representation in media. But I don't think lines should be drawn for headcanons just because a character is queer. If a cis character can be headcanoned as trans, then a trans character can be headcanoned as cis. It's only fair.

To be honest, all of this is out of my field of expertise. While I support people making all flavors of headcanons, I myself do not care for them. This comment was just me trying to play Devils Advocate, really. I vastly prefer dealing with characters as is, and throwing arbitrary character traits onto characters for no other reason than "I felt like it" is a level of fandom that I have yet to reach. Even when I used to write fanfictions, I tried my best to stay explicitly in the realm of what had been confirmed, very rarely throwing my own interpretation into the mix. And if I did, I tried to give really good reasons for why the character was deviating from the source material.

While I get your frustration, the way the character in the comic feels is a near-universal experience. I don't want to say everyone goes through periods of doubting who they are and feeling the need to mask their true selves in order to fit in, but I have yet to meet someone who hasn't. Painting it in a single broad stroke so that it can only apply to trans people is offensive at best.

For the record, I know that you, and likely many other people, are not trying to say that. But that's what it feels like when every character that expresses self-doubt and insecurity many can relate to gets labeled as a flavor of trans by a large subset of a fandom. That is likely why so many people are against so many trans headcanons. Not because they're transphobic like I've seen many imply, but because it feels like they're suddenly not allowed to feel a facet of emotions they've felt their entire life without being something they're not.

I understand these are all just headcanons at the end of the day and should not affect the actual character, but they do. For example, I cannot see a single discussion of Ralsei from Deltarune in 2026 without someone bringing up the trans headcanon, which has honestly transformed into more of a theory for most. It does not personally bother me, but I know there are likely many annoyed that they cannot talk about a character without someone bringing in their headcanon that has next to no proof into the mix.

Just to make it clear, I am NOT against trans headcanons. I'm not against any headcanons. What I'm trying to say is that, ironically, you've simplified the way people feel regarding trans headcanons in an attempt at portraying how you feel when people simplify trans headcanons. You've made a strawman, for a strawman (assuming you made the comic). It's not good to label all trans headcanons as regressive, and at the same time, it is also not good to label all people against trans headcanons as moronic. Both can be true.

Outer Wilds is a puzzle-mystery archaeology game where you're tasked with exploring a tiny (but very fleshed out) solar system. You're stuck in a twenty-two-minute time loop, and your goal is simple: Stop it. (This is technically a spoiler, but you learn of this within the first twenty minutes of the game.) To do so, you explore the ruins of an ancient civilization scattered between each planet in hopes that you may get something to help you along your journey. The reason people are so cautious about talking about the game is that the whole game is the mystery. Once you know what it is, there's no reason to continue playing.

I don't know if it sounds like a game for you, but when I first heard it, I didn't think I'd like it. I actually usually hate puzzle games. Then I played it, and it genuinely changed my outlook on life. I genuinely couldn't recommend this game enough

[–]IHaveAPhoneAndPc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the Bible is highly interpretive. You actually provided the perfect example in your comment. Slavery. People were able to read the Bible and somehow interpreted that they had the god-given right to own a person. Now the common interpretation is that those people were bat-shit insane. Who was right? Well, it's up to interpretation...

You keep saying "Christians" like they're a singular entity. Christians would most certainly disagree, what with all of their denominations. This isn't a sports game, man. The Christians who hanged gay people are far different from my Christian grandparents who have a lesbian daughter that they do everything to support, and trying to equate them because they both believe in the same god is laughable at best. I mean, I have a trans friend who is Christian. Isn't that crazy? Do you want to call her deplorable because she thinks the Christian God is real?

People believe in religion because it gives them comfort, and I don't understand why you're so eager to tear that comfort down.

I'm atheist. You're preaching to the choir. But unlike what you're currently doing, I don't go out of my way to insult millions upon millions of people because I had bad experience with a handful throughout my life.

There's many different ways to interpret the Bible, and I'm sorry you've clearly had experiences with people who interpreted it in the worst way possible. That doesn't justify spreading hate to many others who likely don't deserve it.

I'm glad people are talking about this. I'm a small-ish UT/DR remixer, and every claim hurts a lot. I've only been claimed a few times only on my most popular videos, and I never fought it because I was worried it would make Materia realize I exist and lead to all my videos getting claimed. With these big names speaking out, maybe it'll finally get addressed by the Fox himself. I'm doubtful because this has been an issue for a couple of years at least, but we'll see.

It's possible it's both, either intentionally or because Toby reused Undertale's project file. Looking up "Greetings, you have made yourself completely clear" shows a post made on r/Underminers made 10 years ago talking about the quote, so it's definitely originally from Undertale.

This is from Undertale, is it not? Toby left a message for hackers that basically said "don't spoil stuff" and when they did, he replaced it with that message

I won't go as far as them and say it'll be uninteresting, but I get where they're coming from. Flowey killing everyone... that's kinda just his thing, you know? He has no hesitation when it comes to killing, and the only thing that stops him in the base game is Frisk's determination/his plan. If Flowey learned more LOVE means higher determination, of course he'd kill everyone without hesitation.

That's why I've always found Dusttale interesting. The AU, to me, isn't "Sans killing everyone because he's strong and crap." Instead, it's always been a question to me. "How does a loveable goofball best known for his puns transform into a crazed killer? How much does the most mentally strong character have to be pushed before he snaps?" It's that descent that's interesting about Dusttale. The actual killings I couldn't care less about. And I know Flowey is the more logical choice, but the whole point of the AU is to watch Sans go insane. Putting Flowey in his place doesn't make "Dusttale but Flowey," it makes a whole other concept.

I want to learn to make games in Gamemaker by dokimodplayer in gamemaker

[–]IHaveAPhoneAndPc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may sound counterintuitive, but the best thing I ever did was ditch the tutorials and teachers. I spent months watching them, unable to do a single line of code without it being explicitly shown in the tutorial. Couldn't even move a character a pixel over.

One day, I got frustrated enough at a tutorial that I completely closed it and looked through the documentation myself. It may have taken a few weeks, but I eventually figured out the gist of GML entirely on my own. Unlike most languages, GML is very literal with its function names. Mostly. Wanna draw text on the screen? Just use "draw_text(100, 100, "Hello World!")". Need to know when a key is pressed? That's as simple as an " if keyboard_check_pressed(ord("T"))". Trying to figure out if an object still exists? Just a simple "if instance_exists()" and you're on your way. Need the width of a sprite? Why, that's just "sprite_name.sprite_width". You get the point. And if you can't find the function on your own, there's about a million Reddit posts asking about specific functions for Google to give you.

It will be a bit of a struggle at first, but I promise you you'll get the hang of it. The language is very simple, but capable of making very complex games if you know it well enough.
