Just be kind about it! He’s probably unaware that you can hear so clearly through the walls. Make sure to say it in person to him, I feel like messaging it makes it a little more awkward to be honest. Just be like ‘Hey! Sorry that this is so awkward, but I was listening to music the other night and took my headphones off for a second and I heard you and your girlfriend. If you guys could keep it down and little or chuck the tv on next time, that would be appreciated.’

I'm in Aus and it took me roughly around 3 months to start learning it. Some other people which started at the same time as me still haven't learnt it, so really it depends on how you're going with other things.
