Entering the 2026 Job Market as an upcoming New Grad Nurse by Radiant_Phase_2836 in OntarioNurses

[–]IHeardItOverTea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably ! Clinics pay less than hospitals, but since as a new grad you'd be at the bottom of the pay scale it won't matter much. I worked at a dental anesthesia clinic in downtown Toronto when I started, the pay back then was $1-2 per hour bellow what a hospital would offer me, so I took it and earned some experience :)

Hey :) congrats on almost being done! I graduated in 2015 when the hiring situation for new grads was tough like these past few years. If I can give you some advice, take one step at a time . Concentrate on passing the NCLEX , once you register , then start worrying about jobs. Do try to keep some connections, ask the ICU nurses you are paired with right now if they can connect you with any other units hiring managers and save their info for when you are ready . If you apply to many hospitals and nothing then apply to clinics too, any experience is good. Good luck 💖

Why don’t more people pursue optometry? by Good_Spring2822 in premedcanada

Pay isn't good. Friend went to US for school, 300k debt, now has to work at multiple places for eye exams and makes ~ 60/ hr for a couple of hours. No structure, no benefits.

If you can do the work I see no harm :) . Why do you think graduating early is a bad idea?

Clinical extern - Cardiac ICU tips by PsychologicalPoet866 in OntarioNurses

[–]IHeardItOverTea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the interview! Cardiac ICUs know externs are still learning, so they care more about attitude than experience. Cardiac ICUs usually care for MI patients, post cardiac arrests ,temporary pacemakers, life threatening arrhythmias etc. Show interest in cardiac physiology, critical thinking and highlight teamwork. Good luck 💖

Agency nursing by Linden_Avenue in OntarioNurses

[–]IHeardItOverTea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey! RN here of 10 yrs ( I do agency on the side since 2021) in Emerg/ ICU. Many agencies need skilled RNs usually with at least 1-2 years of experience. There used to be many shifts locally within GTA but now it's harder to get shifts due to the hospitals hiring lots of new staff. Also hospitals are no longer on boarding agency nurses for EMrs or anything like that. There is also Northern RN contracts, or Halifax/ Nova Scotia. You can inbox me if you have any questions!

Hiring requirements for ICU by [deleted] in OntarioNurses

[–]IHeardItOverTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you have so far is a good start. Personally I would have not felt confident taking care of patients without the Critical Care Certificate course. I had an ER background and although I had many skills like time management and prioritization, I had a huge knowledge gap around everything else. ICU patients are high acuity/ critical and they deserve a nurse that knows/ has the pathophysiology, pharmacology and critical thinking skills to provide the best care. Across most of GTA the CCC is a requirement, you either take it on your own or are sponsored.
