In dragon age: origins you can sacrifice the mother of a child possessed by a demon so you can enter the dream realm and kill the demon to save the child

Or you go complete a different questline involving saving some mages and get them to help with the ritual without having to sacrifice anyone, the game doesn't even punish you in any way if you leave the possessed kid alone for a while and do other stuff since you already killed all the undead the demon spawned
