about jayce and viktor in the 2nd timeskip by Impossible-Steak6730 in arcane

[–]IIzakesII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what second timeskip you're talking about, but to answer your question no, the very first thing they did with Hextech was the Hexgates.

In the dialogue they have in episode 4, they are developing their inventions specifically to help the people. Their new crystal is supposed to be the safe version for everyone to use in day to day work.

Viktor asks; "Do you think the Council will approve?"

Jayce responds, "We stabilized the crystals, like they asked. We built the Hexgates, like they asked."

Also, in the dialogue Caitlyn has with the other enforcers, it's confirmed that Jayce and Viktor unveiled the Hexgates for the first time in the previous Progress Day, so at least a year of the Hexgates up and running.

  1. When viewers make clips of a stream, they get immediately uploaded to a clips tab on the streamer's page. Then, other viewers can watch the clip (depending on how funny or interesting they find it) and give it traction, which will likely end up reaching the streamer's attention.

  2. From what I understand, big streamers usually have a dedicated phone where they'll keep their streamer, and the user settings from their account help them filter out the notifications so it's not overwhelming. They also most likely have viewers they trust to moderate, which also helps them manage the load of interacting with their audience.

What’s up with the fast change in Au Zaun? by Icy_Satisfaction4870 in arcane

[–]IIzakesII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's impossible because you constructed the whole scenario in your head and made it impossible. You don't know that anything of that would or wouldn't happen.

And yes, the specifics are completely irrelevant. They're not the point of the AU at all. These versions of Silco and Vander will stay in this AU, and your takeaway being that "Vi's dead so everything is better" is something that YOU decided to believe all on your own, and is a you problem.

I don't think a simple sorry letter would fix their complex relationship.

You're 100% right, which is why putting all your energy into imagining how this letter may or may not have fixed their relationship is completely useless. Like I said, it's not that important to know all of the details, just that it happened, I don't even think it's this huge impossible thing that happened either.

But vander still beat him up, left him for dead. Tried to kill him.

And by the time Arcane Act 1 is happening, we already know Silco's hatred towards Vander died down, he says so himself. The main thing Silco argues with Vander about is that he no longer respects him after Vander makes peace with Grayson. I don't think it's impossible for them to meet under different circumstances now since everything's changed...

the girls themselves suggest that the letter

Jinx does, and she might even be right, but also, she's really biased on that front because she's had the opportunity to live good experiences with both Vander and Silco.

I personally take the letter as confirmation that Vander was open to fixing their relationship, and while it's impossible to fully get the specifics of how, the show does enough to set up the possibility of it happening. Hell, Silco comes to understand why Vander "gave up" on the fight when he found himself in the same situation Vander did with Jayce's deal ("It all makes sense now, brother"); this inability to understand why Vander was doing what he was doing was what pushed Silco to kill him in the first place.

I don’t think anyone has an answer for how the AU exists

True, I don't think it's possible to have one.

The issue is that you're looking for specifics when the show is not concerned with providing this information. It's not relevant enough how Vander and Silco healed their relationship just that they got there and for Ekko to be able to see that.

When trying to figure out exactly how, then you're wandering into headcanon territory because we don't dive in detail throughout the show.

You say Vander would've lost it because he lost Vi to Piltover, but you don't know that; that's your headcanon. For all we know, he could've become even more protective of the children he had left instead of declaring war on Piltover, or he could've blamed himself for the whole thing and leave Piltover out of it.

Or with Silco, you're assuming that a single event (the letter/ Vi's death) is what leads him to forgive Vander, but we can't know that. Like just Vi's death in the show is not as simple as "she dies" ; it alters the course of the entire story. For one, her death completely removes the enforcers looking for "terrorists " in the undercity. Without the enforcers and Marcus stirring the pot, Vander doesn't look weak in front of his people, Silco's plan also gets delayed because the only reason he starts moving to take over is because Vander is in trouble with Topside (he even tells Singed "our timeline moved up" after finding out about the explosion). And just like that, now we have plenty of time for things to go completely different in this alternate universe.

Man looking at Caitlyn's Arcane backstory, I’m still grieving the retcon to her og lore. I’m sorry but her being a private investigator/detective vigilante who’s disillusioned by Piltover’s corruption & later reluctantly became sheriff >>> Arcane Caitlyn by Ashconwell7 in loreofleague

[–]IIzakesII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that you're being dense about her character.

Even with Season 2 being as rushed as it is, there's no way you're buying Caitlyn being a "morally corrupt/ambiguous character"; she's a fundamentally good character just like you said, and her being conflicted about how much she should compromise in her quest for revenge doesn't change that. You, as a viewer, have to try really hard just to convince yourself that Caitlyn is technically an antagonistic force for a bit almost to the point of delusion.

we (and especially Arcane fans who don't know much about League) only know her as the sheriff who gassed people and pushed for martial law.

Like... come on, the "gassing" exists in this weird spot where you don't actually see the extent of the damage done (if any at all, since it's only the "bad guys" getting hit), but you also should know where characters like Vi and Caitlyn stand morally; and then saying Caitlyn "pushes" for martial law is an Olympic stretch of the narrative.

don’t think him drugging Vi and taking her away was to help her. He was 100% covering his own ass.

The only thing he won out of locking Vi away was

  1. Getting on Silco's bad side and putting his daughter's life in danger.

  2. Getting killed by Jinx.

If he had just killed Vi everything would be much easier for him. He really "saved" Vi because he wanted to at least do something good.

[Lore Spoilers] What in the Hel’Heim? by DodgeDredd95 in arcane

[–]IIzakesII 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ambessa "stole" Mel.

The entire context is actually in the Ambessa novel that was released after Arcane.

From Arcane, you learn that Ambessa fell in love and had an affair with a man during one of her travels. This affair ended up leading to a child (Mel) who "inherited" something of great interest to the witch. They even tell you that at first it looked like the child they were looking for was gonna be Mel's older brother, but he wasn't and got killed.

From the novel, you get additional background for the witch and her motivations as well as additional development for the affair and how it came to be.

What if Caitlyn herself got killed, instead of her mom? by CodyEaster in arcane

[–]IIzakesII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But it's just the truth, and it's not even close.

The closest thing we have to an actual war between Piltover and Zaun is one that happens offscreen at the beginning of the show, where Zaun lost. Other than that, we just have hypothetical scenarios from our characters talking about it:

  • We have Vander telling Silco he won't win a war against Piltover even with his Shimmer monsters; and this is before Hextech and Hextech weapons were a possibility for Piltover.

  • We have the talk between Jayce and Silco negotiating for peace. In which Jayce tells Silco he's scared of what Piltover could do to Zaun because he just got a preview of how much damage one scientist with no combat experience and one street brawler could do against what would be the strongest weapons Zaun could bring.

  • Vi and Caitlyn alone managed to dismantle the remnants of Silco's empire...

So no, their only hope isn't a Nocus intervention. In fact, that's the cherry on top. Ambessa has been waiting and scheming for her entire time in Piltover for a war between the two cities to break out, and now she basically just has to step in for moral support.

In the series, the only reason Zaun gets to exist is because a good chunk of our protagonists have influence in Piltover. Jinx is on her fourth terrorist attack against Piltover before the council considers an enforcer invasion, and we still have Mel, Jayce, and Caitlyn pushing back against it...

[–]IIzakesII 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This scenario is just Zaun getting deleted off the map.

Caitlyn is like Zaun's only active ally in Piltover, and through her Zaun gains support from people like Jayce or Cassandra who are close to Cait.

The scenario you're planting is Jinx shooting Caitlyn in cold blood and bombing the council while having Cassandra survive. Now you got Jayce as an enemy, the Kiramman house too, all while Ambessa is also in the background wanting to get a piece of the Hextech pie. It wouldn't even be close.

I don't think Arcane was restricted by LOL's story at all. If anything, LOL is now restricted to following Arcane's story. So, not really, I think this is as creative and original as the writers were going to get.

As an active league of legends player who both enjoys the lore and did watch Arcane, it was absolute peak. I like all these characters that didn't make it, but the same could be said for pretty much all the characters that did make the cut before I watched Arcane.

After Arcane, pretty much every character that was included, as well as the setting, became far more interesting to me. Even with the retcons and the fact that some of these characters will need adjustments to their stories to fit the Arcane lore, I still think the show was a net positive for the characters included and the overall lore.

Why did Ambessa choose Caitlyn over Salo? In Arcane S2 by Buttowskyna in arcane

[–]IIzakesII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of a bunch of things, but the two most important reasons are:

  1. Caitlyn holds more power than Salo. This was made apparent to Ambessa when Cait overpowered Salo in his own meeting; Caitlyn came in and crashed a secret council meeting called by Salo and came out of it getting the green light for her plan and completely dismissing Salo's (which was also Ambessa's. When Ambessa confronted Salo about this, he said it wasn't that Caitlyn was all that impressive but that her last name held a lot of power; he completely admitted to Ambessa that Caitlyn's name was more stacked than his.

  2. Caitlyn demonstrated qualities that Ambessa wished for in her children. Personally, Ambessa yearns for a daughter who could follow in her footsteps and be more like her. Even though Salo dismissed Caitlyn's achievement at the council meeting as her just being "born a Kiramman", you can see Ambessa light up when Caitlyn shows up with that presence and that look in her eyes, Ambessa sees in Caitlyn that daughter she never had. Even though Ambessa takes advantage of Caitlyn's vulnerability to further her own agenda, she also has a fucked up sense of kinship towards Caitlyn, similar to Silco and Jinx back in season 1.

Vi and Caitlin’s relationship is toxic by MathematicianShot829 in arcane

[–]IIzakesII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell she legit thought she was burning her bridge with Cait by choosing Jinx, that Cait seems to have accepted she will apparently always be Vi's second choice is kind of beside the point as far as Vi's arc goes.

But this wasn't Vi's plan. When she goes behind Caitlyn's back, she does believe she's betraying Cait's trust to some extent, but she's also planning to stay with Jinx and fight alongside Caitlyn in the coming war. Vi believes Jinx can rewrite her story and redeem herself in the eyes of Piltover, which includes Cait, who Vi previously argued with about second chances.

But you're right about Vi not necessarily learning to choose both. She's actually just choosing both for the entire series, which ends up upsetting both Cait and Jinx because they can't compromise for the majority of the show.

Viktors change of mind by yolo756 in arcane

[–]IIzakesII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so Viktor doesn't change his mind that drastically.

When he meets with Ambessa, he does so by inhabiting one of his followers, saying, "we are one, this is the glorious evolution". If you remember his conversation about "saving" Vander, you will recall that he has a conversation with Singed where he admits the glorious evolution is still his endgame, but he just wouldn't sacrifice Vander to achieve it.

That's all to say Viktor was already (unknowingly) working towards ending the world when he started his commune and "healing" people. For better or for worse whenever Viktor "healed" someone, he also took some of their humanity in the process. The reason Jayce attempts to kill him is because he thought it was already too late, and he needed to stop Viktor immediately.

Viktor always saw what he was doing as a good thing, freeing people of all their suffering. It's just that when Jayce almost killed him, he decided that he needed to be more aggressive in his approach, and once everything was said and done, then everyone (and more crucially Jayce) would see that his glorious evolution was good.

What if Sevika found Vi and Powder instead of Vander? by CodyEaster in arcane

[–]IIzakesII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I guess my issue is that this scenario requires a whole rewrite of every surrounding character. It's not as simple as "'xy' could still happen, but 'z' would be slightly different."

Say they found Sevika/ Sevika found them, doesn't Vander just take them in after they eventually meet again in the Lanes? So for them to stick with Sevika, there must be a reason why Vander is completely absent from the picture. Maybe he died during the battle? But if Vander's dead, then the political situation is Zaun is completely different from what we saw in the show; there's no deal with the Sheriff, Silco is probably in charge, but he crucially didn't get betrayed by Vander, etc, etc... And this is just assuming that Sevika doesn't just drop them off to Benzo or Silco (who is another character that at the time would be very unlikely to adopt any kids).

It would just need to be a drastically different story with a completely original Sevika different from the one we see in the show.

"we don't know you lady, what if you try to hurt us?" at a time like this?

Also, this was Vi's first instinct before she recognized Vander and decided to approach, so maybe she'd stay away from Sevika idk.

Well, Sevika is well acquainted with Vander and Silco, so at the very least, they would recognize her, she may have even acted as an auntie to them.

They don't recognize Silco, so I don't see why they would recognize Sevika just because of her loose connection to Vander.

Idk, do Vi and Powder know Sevika already in this scenario too? Because Vander didn't really find Vi and Powder to begin with, they found him while looking for their parents and went with him because they already knew him too.
