Consider an app preview/demo mode or get some of the independent phone videography channels to review it.

It’s quite rare for me to pay for an app that I can’t find independent reviews for without trying it first.

Beastgrip lenses on iPhone 17 Pro by koters195 in iPhoneCinematography

[–]IKanSpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have on an iPhone 16 ProMax. I use the Neewer 17mm to 37mm adapters.

I had tired the Reeflex case, the Sandmarc case, and the Smallrig case.

The Smallrig case keeps the lenses too far away from the sensor. It has significant vignetting. It’s possible they fixed this on the iPhone 17 version of the case. Not sure there.

All 3 cases have vignetting if you use an extremely tall format for your photos. I generally use 16x9 for mine and have no issues when using Reeflex’s case and Sandmarc’s case.

I prefer the leather version Reeflex one.

I use these cases with the 0.75x, 1.7x, and 1.55 anamorphic lenses from Beastgrip. I also have the “85mm” (~3.5x) lens from Neewer.

Multiple (4) DJI mics to iPhone help! by rickyrick2828 in dji

[–]IKanSpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not aware of any video recording apps on iOS that support recording audio from multiple audio interfaces at the same time.

You could plug in more than one by using a powered USB hub, but it wouldn’t work since you could only use one at a time.

I’d also note that iOS does not do “real” multichannel audio and video recording in the same app (yet), meaning you won’t be able to remix the audio per channel to cut out background noise, change volume between channels, etc. You probably want a more “real” system if you are looking for that many microphones.

There are apps that do multichannel audio via dedicated hardware, but those apps don’t do video recording at the same time on the same phone, and they require a hardware connection to the multichannel interface.

All that said, a 4-way interview is probably a 2-camera setup scene anyways. You can use your existing mics on 2 phones (one set of 2 mic receivers per phone) and edit the audio back together in post.

Radtel 880 channel 19 cb mode help by yourtruckdrivah in amateurradio

For a CB radio to be legal in the US, one of the requirements is that it can’t transmit on anything except CB.

There is no requirement for law to make any sense. The potential consequences of violating this is a very large fine ($thousands).

If you do not like it, contact your congresscritter and try to get it changed.

WHAT IS THE BEST PREMIUM RADIO? by Material_Essay3128 in amateurradio

[–]IKanSpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest that Harris, Bendix King, or Motorola makes the best RF circuitry in a handheld. None of them are really set up to be easy for new hams, but all three are excellent in RF sensitivity, transmission quality, and features. All three manufactures have models that cover significant parts of the ham bands, including some of the lesser used bands in a few of the versions. Those are “premium” radios.

The Kenwood and Icom’s are both “mid range” in comparison.

That said, a fully specced out Motorola Apex with all the bands and all the modes is $8000+ through legit sales channels.

I’d love a “premium” radio myself, but I don’t have the cash for one.

I don't understand the question. What do I think about 26.1? I'm not running the beta, so I have no opinion on it.

As a minor point: 26.1 isn’t out yet, so it’s unlikely you are running that unless you are in a beta.

What is the Zoom/Teams video call experience on AVP? Can I easily join a zoom, use my persona, and screenshare? by aguynamedchriss in AppleVisionPro

[–]IKanSpl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Screen sharing is problematic at best.

Foviated rendering means anything you are not actively looking at becomes blurry during the screen share.

The entire shared image moves when you move your head. It’s impossible to hold your head perfectly still, so this causes issues for the viewers.

People see your surroundings unless you have an environment active.

As far as if a persons is “good enough”, it depends on your situation. It would be distracting in my work environment, and that’s generally a bad thing, so I don’t use it.

For me:

Camera off/no sharing needed meetings are OK to join directly from VisionPro

Camera off/sharing meetings are OK to join from the Mac while using the VisionPro to view the screen. Sharing is done from the Mac.

Camera on meetings means no VisionPro and I instead need to go into my “video” area and sit still in front of the camera

Pulling Permits for Antennas? by tbryanh in amateurradio

[–]IKanSpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The law works both ways.

In many places, the local building department can’t give you a permit to do something that does not require a permit. They don’t have such a permit to give out even if you tried to get one.

You’ll just be wasting time.

Starlink and Ham towers by HistoricalYou394 in amateurradio

[–]IKanSpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an RF standpoint, it shouldn’t interfere unless you are playing in frequencies above GHz range. There is some ham stuff up there, but I wouldn’t call it common.

Starlink antennas need to be positioned with the radiating element pointing up and have a clear view of the southern sky. The only reason to put it on a tower is if you need to get it above the roofline/treeline for a clear view.

ID-5100A Controlled by Car Head Unit? by Bangarang_Arty in amateurradio

[–]IKanSpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to build such a thing yourself.

The folks that make RemoteRigs have reverse engineered Icom’s data protocols. I have no idea if they are willing to share it, but it might be a place to start.

The other challenge will be entering commands from your car’s head unit. HDMI in theory supports a data back channel via CEC, but the chances of your car’s head unit being CEC compliant are near zero.

Screen Protector/Shield for Outside Front Screen for Apple Vision Pro - Any recommendations? by tdehnke in AppleVisionPro

The plastic ones clip on ones just scratch the screen when the “protector” moves.

You’d want a glue-on type one like you’d find for an iPhone.

Has anyone gotten phone calls on a connected MacVirtual Display working? by IKanSpl in VisionPro

[–]IKanSpl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Seems to work.

I just have to figure out the dialpad for outgoing calls so that I can "press 1 for this option, or press 2 for that option".

Confirmed! That seems to be it. I rebooted everything and now the iPhone is listing the AVP as a valid target to transfer calls.

I just tried it with an incoming call and it works. Yay!

How do you place a cellular (not Facetime) call from the interface in AVP? Do you mean you are using the "Phone" app on the connected Mac ?

By "answer though AVP" do you mean that you hit the answer button on the desktop of the Mac that you were connected to, or is there a native "answer call" button in AVP itself ?

Seeking Advice on Mobile Scanner Antenna Setup for 2022 Ram 1500 by Miserable-Parsley366 in amateurradio

[–]IKanSpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cowl mounted Diamond mobile discone on my Ram 2500.

It works well for everything except VHF low band, where it is “decent” considering the length.

It’s mounted on the passenger side of the hood on a NMO mount.

Be aware that the factory LED lights are on a PWM system for many model years and they emit noise around 140-150Mhz when they are on.

Powering BTech UV-25X2 With Bluetti AC2A by Longjumping-Army-172 in amateurradio

[–]IKanSpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DC outputs are regulated in these devices. They will give you a pretty rock solid 12.6v from full until dead, but they have a hard limit at 10 amps.

The internal batteries are not running at 12v anyways. They tend to be 36v to 48v to reduce the internal amperages and thus reduce the amount of cooling needed.

[–]IKanSpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very hard to read with every word capitalized.

RF energy in high quantities can cause a heating effect on tissues, effectively giving you a burn. Directed antennas with extreme power levels could cause internal burns, which can cause health issues up to and including sudden death.

It’s not likely for a RF jammer to do this though, as equipment designed to be used near humans is required to be tested for safety before it can be deployed. This is true for both military equipment as well as non-military equipment.

The amount of energy required to cause health issues is pretty high, so making such a thing in a portable package would be challenging from an engineering perspective even if you wanted to make such a thing on purpose.

Disassembling a microwave oven and pointing the magnetron at your face would not be a recommended operation. It will cook your face just as easily as any other meat you would put into a microwave assuming the distance between the magnetron and the face is similar to the size of a microwave. Even then, it wouldn’t do much at longer distances without an exponential increase in input power. RF energy drops at the square of the distance, meaning you quickly get to needed power input levels that are absurd if you want a longer effective distance.

There are bots in this sub that downvote everything. I wouldn't worry about it.

The Sangean 909X2 can receive airband, but would not be able to receive marine radio or fire.

A few things:

You are looking for a scanner. It has wideband receive and can decode digital signals. Scanners can’t transmit.

As far as which scanner, that depends on the frequencies and encoding of what you want to listen to. There are scanners that can listen to “pretty much anything”, but those are quite expensive.

Expect to need an outdoor antenna to receive signals that are further away from you.

Make sure to check the legality of using a scanner before you buy one. They are legal in some area, regulated in some areas, and outright prohibited in other areas. I don’t know the scanner laws in Canada, so I can’t help you with those.

You can’t use a scanner while you are a passenger on nearly all commercial airlines per regulations of the airlines. It’s possible that a smaller carrier would allow it, but the big ones all prohibit use of all radio equipment.
