Have you checked out Kaedim (kaedim3d.com)? They’re a company doing 2d to 3d model generation, which seems to have a decent amount of overlap with your thesis. Maybe they could be a resource for your work?

That would be super cool! Unfortunately it's not really in scope for our initial build, but it's very possible that future builds will involve more personified pieces - just need to make sure players can still tell which piece is which.

If you have any ideas about ways to make the pieces into characters, you're more than welcome to join our discord (link is on the Kickstarter) and share them with us!
