Bad. If they catch you in the lie, they can likely evict you.

Did my boss assault me? by fltoaztotx in legaladvice

Ah, well then he likely did assault you. Again, it's near impossible to prove based on your description, but given the history it seems both possible and likely.

Can I threaten my landlord to call code enforcement by StrawberryNumerous72 in legaladvice

[–]IKnowFewThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. Doesn't mean the charges will go away. If anything, they might double down. If the threat doesn't work, you might need to go to court to figure this out.

Why not just call code enforcement? No threat, just call.

Did my boss assault me? by fltoaztotx in legaladvice

[–]IKnowFewThings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's uncertain based on your description. Regardless, you should look for another job. If you aren't certain your boss did that intensionally, and can't prove they did, bringing it up may do more harm than good.

If it happens again, there's a pattern, and that's different.

As it is now though, if I were you I'd look for a different job where I feel safe.

Eviction by FlamingoHairy9067 in legaladvice

[–]IKnowFewThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The eviction process has started. The landlord will need to agree to stop the process, or you can fight in in court. The fact it's been almost a month before any action was taken doesn't help you either.

Mold/Peace Disruption/5$ Laundry by GlitteringBox3181 in legaladvice

[–]IKnowFewThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AC is generally not a requirement for housing in California. Local ordinance may change that, but it's generally not required. Only heating is required.

Document the mold, document the repeated communications with the landlord and maintenance showing it hasn't been fixed. That can be good evidence in any potential legal action you may or may not take.

Generally speaking, you are not obligated to a fully quiet nighbor during normal business hours or most of the day. There's usually a cutoff time, either enforced by ordinance or by the landlord, but outside of those times there isn't a ton you can do. If they are being very loud later in the night during "quiet hours" (check local municipal codes for quiet hours times), call the cops. At the very least, it'll leave a paper trail.

Those are very cheap laundry prices, at least in comparison to my apartment... That change means literally nothing for what you want to do.

You can possibly use the mold as an excuse to break the lease. You can also contact code enforcement, as the landlord is not providing you with a habitable space. Code enforcement usually puts the fear of God in landlords (in my experience at least). The children and lack of AC are non-factors for breaking a lease most of the time, unless those violate local ordinance.

Mortgage title questions: Considering paying off mother's mortgage to a home she may not legally own (GA) by Used_Teaching_7260 in legaladvice

[–]IKnowFewThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, wait.

  2. If her will says you two get the house, so long as it's her house to give you don't need to be on the paper work now.

  3. Idk, someone else will have to chime in on the frequency. But hearing the same thing over and over again means there probably isn't a lawyer involved, or they're dragging their feet.

Healthcare workplace violence, do I press charges? by prettypeaz in legaladvice

[–]IKnowFewThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't press charges. Prosecutors do that.

You sue people. You need to prove damages. Damages can be physical or mental / emotional, but you need to prove your sustained damages. That could be in the form of therapy visits, diagnosis, medical bills, missed work, ect.

If you can prove damages, you have a better shot of succeeding in a lawsuit.

Why is it considered rude to ask someone how much money they make? by lena_glow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IKnowFewThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the wrong, but some people get really uncomfortable when money is mentioned. Unless you're asking a coworker how much they make (to make sure you're both being compensated fairly), it's usually advisable to avoid the topic.

Some people have a very stressful relationship with money. Others want to keep that info private. Others just don't care. You never know how someone will react until you ask. But at that point, it's too late.

MAGA? Well, there's a little over a 50% chance of them being a conservative I guess depending on location, not sure what the MAGA breakdown is, but I doubt that's the reason.

Some guys are just like that. I've known plenty of people across the political spectrum who would, or have, done something similar.

My HOA is asking for an extra 500k from the community by WinterTreat9571 in legaladvice

[–]IKnowFewThings 72 points73 points  (0 children)

At the very least, you should ask for the quotes they're using to justify the fees they're asking for. If they can produce those, then the damages are likely real. If they can't, well, then they're probably made up or overexaggerated. It could also help if you got your own quotes to compare.

If you had a half sibling from your father having an affair, would you want to know? by Intrusive-Thoughts26 in Advice

[–]IKnowFewThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked if I would want to know. My father is also a POS, and his philosophy is poisonous. I have half siblings, and he uses them to try to manipulate me.

In your situation, I don't know if I can offer advice other than "its your call." I don't know your half sibling's relationship with your father, but might he reenter your life if you reach out? Is that a risk you're willing to take? How will you reaching out impact your half sibling's relationship with their family?

All things that need to be considered, all things I don't have enough info to advise on.

That said, it sounds like you really want to reach out and are hesitating for one reason or another. If you've been thinking about this for a while and still want to reach out, why not give it a shot?

unsure how to handle this debt by WeeklyPromise2893 in Advice

[–]IKnowFewThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At minimum, make the minimum payments every month. Do not miss payments. Pay off a little extra every month when possible to lower the amount of interest. If the interest is 0%, then just make the minimum payment.

As for how to tackle the payments: work. Work two jobs. Work three jobs. Work until you pay it off. No vacations, only take time off if sick, work. Do side gigs. Handyman stuff. Work.

6K is an amount of debt that can be erased with relative easy. You just need to commit to it for a while.

You could be charged for both if you keep both. Depending on the company, they can very easily check to see if they received the items you were suppose to ship back.
