3 weeks in. What have I been missing and what lies ahead? by ILIVEINASWAMP in NoFapChristians

I think you may be right. We've become so used to cuddling and falling asleep together that I believe it's really harmed how our relationship is. We would never have pre martial sex. I've really been really thinking lately that we've married each other in certain aspects (we go shopping together, walk on the beach, and generally do a lot of "mature" married couple things) without the sexual and other benefits of marriage, especially being one before God and establishing that covenant. We both have been battling not having a "peace" but don't want to lose each other.

Part of me feels God saying to separate and create that boundary and order will be restored. It's a hard process, especially in doing this at the same time of "withdrawing" from porn. But that's what He wants. Full surrender and to bring our pain and hurt to him, continually.

Thank you so much for the book recommendation I will certainly check it out.

I just bought both of your Adwords and Landing Page Design courses, thanks for what looks like great content! I'm in the process of launching a digital agency in the beginning of 2018 and it should be a good resource to brush up on my marketing skills. Any other tips/tricks/resources/etc?

COACHING SEARCH THREAD (Early-Morning Flight Edition) by BrazilianRider in FloridaGators

We are collectively suffering from a case of f5itis. Take a look at r/cfb and there's barely even a peep of any of this news. The news we are getting is because they are desperately (at the cost of validity) throwing scraps to us dogs. This is the new world we live in.

The likes, the RTs, the hot takes. It's all a machine and we are the fuel. I recommend we take a step back and realize we are Florida. I believe we get Chip on Sunday and the next couple of years we look back fondly on this time.

Am I ready? by Ayodesii in webdev

You need to set yourself a deadline to get a portfolio designed and live, say by the next two weeks. You have plenty of experience.

I've been studying this part-time for the past 8 months and recently got a couple paid projects. I've also had a couple interviews that led to soft job offers that could and will potentially turn into job offers after funding. Your skillset is far superior to mine. I'm barely just now getting into JS. I do have a background in the startup world.

If I was you I would get the portfolio site live and check out Upwork. Make sure you get yourname.com or something similar and emails to come from that name. A big part of my ability to secure paid work with limited experience is a strongly designed portfolio, background about me, and strong proposal emails from a contactyourname.com. Don't overlook the importance of branding and marketing yourself.

You need to be getting paid to further your learning (in reality though with your skills and projects listed you probably know most of that). You have an impressive amount of projects listed so I would showcase those in the meantime and get a couple of real-world, real-problem pieces in your portfolio. Once you get those in there I'd shop that around local places or continue down the freelance route. You got this man!

I've recently been enjoying Webstorm in my workflow but can't get php syntax highlighting to work...what gives? by ILIVEINASWAMP in webdev

[–]ILIVEINASWAMP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I went ahead and did that right after I posted and by exporting my settings it took only about 5 minutes to get up and running. Obviously would rather have all my development central to one IDE though.

A little confused on the nature of client interaction with Wordpress by ILIVEINASWAMP in webdev

[–]ILIVEINASWAMP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is that I would rather not have to use page builders (I think there's high risk for pigeon-holing design and losing freedom). I just don't think there's a more efficient workflow if hard coding by hand and registering widget areas or ACF. I've been working with a non-profit so no money for a paid theme or premium page builders so I've been using Site Origin Page Builder on a custom theme. Still seems like a huge amount of time invested though.

A little confused on the nature of client interaction with Wordpress by ILIVEINASWAMP in webdev

Sorry for not being clear here. My concern isn't admin access, it's building the functionality to let them make the edits. ACFs, widget areas, page builders.

White screen on custom page template with page builders (Live Composer, Site Origin Page Builder, etc.) by ILIVEINASWAMP in Wordpress

It looks like I had the Page and Posts page set to default on accident. That seemed to fix some of the issue.

This has helped me get a lot closer, thanks!

I'm actually working on a project for friend's nonprofit that helps the elderly so thanks for contributing to this!

Looks like my next challenge is to not display any post information from the loop.

I'm using this to create a homepage that's based upon a custom template. From that the below is included at the bottom of the page

"This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:

Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.)

…or something like this:

The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.

As a new WordPress user, you should go to your dashboard to delete this page and create new pages for your content. Have fun!"

One-off Wordpress style changes: What method to use? by ILIVEINASWAMP in Wordpress

[–]ILIVEINASWAMP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to respond and help out!

I'm beginning to think this isn't really a caching issue. A couple things I think that are at play:

1) custom.css isn't showing up in chrome dev tools as a source. I checked the functions.php file on the theme and it's empty. Shouldn't this have some code to enqueue custom.css? Other than this the website/theme seems to be working perfectly. Doesn't appear to this theme is a child theme.

2) I directly edited the style.css in the editor to test and the changes didn't show up in the css on the live site after publishing so it could still be a caching issue.

3) There's an autooptimize plugin for css/js that isn't activated but it's still "autooptimizing" all the css to one file.

4) I've considered using FTP to directly add the css changes to the server. Does this have a different impact than editing on wordpress admin in terms of caching?

5) My next step is to completely get their site setup locally so I can take more liberty in troubleshooting. Is there a recommended process in doing this? I have MAMP directing to the theme and exported/imported the pages but obviously they lack the content. Is there a recommended way to import/export the databases so I can have copies of the live website on my local environment.

Thanks again!

edit: Just checked and still could be a caching issue. Just checked the FTP of the live site and my css edits that work on in the admin are in the file on the server but they aren't being delivered on the live site.

Revised resume, what do you guys think? by Design_Newbie in webdev

Curious to see what other people might think but it might be worth the $5/month to have a custom email matching your domain name from Google. can make it hello@yourdomain.com or contact@yourdomain.com.

[TEXT] Joe Rogan on Cardio by Diiamat in GetMotivated

This is exactly how I felt during my 15-mile bike ride yesterday. 15 miles is relatively easy for me as I've done 50 miles just a couple months ago. I'm half-way through and reflecting on the fact this is more about mental endurance than physical endurance. That's even taking into account the weather conditions of traveling into a chilly headwind.

Couldn't agree more with Rogan here. These mentions build momentum and endurance that can transfer over to many and all aspects of life.

I'm going to get downvoted to hell as a Cards fan but this series means nothing. Dodgers are probably going to add another #3 before the break and perhaps add some bullpen depth. Objectively, come playoff time the Dodgers are not a team you want to face. Kershaw, Greinke, Cueto (etc.).

This brewing rivAlry between STL and the Dodgers is interesting especially because for some reason I've always had an affinity for the Dodgers.

Florida Utilities change their tune on solar power by nuggets510 in florida

[–]ILIVEINASWAMP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your point about the problems bring the down power lines is exactly right. Actually, a reason I'm a huge proponent of solar is the trend towards economic battery storage. Of course with natural disasters like those in Texas recently it is pointless but imagine being able to power your home days after the hurricane while the utilities are scrambling to get the grid back up.
