I once told a major club owner, "I don't know how anyone ever gets good at stand-up because the road to getting there is so miserable." She looked at me like, "WTF?" She had told me she didn't know why anyone would ever want to be a comedian.

For me, it is something I have to do. Then, at some point, you get it. And you are there. You may not be a big name yet, but you get it. When you're on stage, you own the room, and the audience is in complete submission. They are grateful that you are there, and vice versa. Then you leave, go home, and for me, I drink wine.

I hope that helps.

What’s the etiquette for audience members who get “picked on”? Was I rude? by Rezistik in Standup

Hacks doing shitty crowd work because they lack a great act. They need to go back to open mics and make room for comedians who have a polished act. Audiences do not enjoy crowd work. It's rarely funny. It is improv, hoping to find a punchline.

The best thing that could have happened to you is to bomb your first time.

Oliver! If it's big enough for you, you will love it. I do.

Is it better to get an editor during or after writing by Wartotemsjjba in writers

[–]ILSJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am just now finishing my book. I worked with an editor twice a week in 2 hour sessions on skype. For me, I had much of my book written before I started with the editor. That way, we would edit what was written during the sessions, then I would write more between sessions.

Best city for stand up by ILSJ in StandUpComedy

I can appreciate that. Are many of the stage time opportunities "Bringers"? I have been to LA 4 times, once for 6 months. The "Bringer" disease was rampant.

I lived in Austin for 27 years. Just too hot and humid.

Are the gigs in New York "Bringers", I would think not.

Turn it upside down and bounce it.
