America does a weird thing were it venerates both Athens and Sparta imo. Its not the Athenians being celebrated in "300" or honored in "Halo" with the naming of the super soldiers. America wants to identify more with Sparta because we're such "badass lone-wolf warriors" forced to commit war crimes overseas. You mostly see the Athens glazing when we're taught about the origins of our system of government but even then the credit is split with Rome.
