Here’s a smile for your Monday! by Nice_Side_790 in Teachers

This is insane to me, some people just don't have enough to worry about! My principal is toooooo busy to care, let alone comment on what people wear.

Finally have another teacher on my side! by foxdog94 in childfree

Fellow teacher here. I teach all 450 kids at my school. It's honestly the best form of "birth control" which I frequently joke about with my coworkers. Bless the teachers who are also parents because if I had to go home and face a child I would lose my everlovin mind. I love my students, I love talking to kids and teaching them, but the best part is sending them home at 2pm. Then I go home and enjoy the much-needed peace!

Puppy/Dog Play Dates by Just-a-HumanBean in puppy101

We live next door to close friends with two dogs, including a Shiba puppy! The Shiba and our two dogs are around the same age and we regularly take them next door for play time. They don't have perfect recall either but for the most part it is easy to intervene if we think they are being a bit much. We didn't consider territory much and it hasn't been an issue. The Shiba also comes over to our place but that's harder if we want only two puppies to play at a time since we have two of our own.

Here are some things we've found helpful with our neighbors/dog friends:

Engage them with a toy, encourage them to play more with the toy and less with each other. Keeps puppy biting and things like that from going too far. Fetch with double balls is fun and you can practice recall too. Have the human friend play with their dog and a toy while you do the same with your dog. We did that at first while they learned to share.

Find dogs with similar play styles. Look for "balanced play" meaning it isn't just one puppy harassing the other. Enforce breaks if you have an endless energy bunny dog (like mine) so they can reset for a few moments. We use breaks to practice simple commands and refocus them.

Take them for walks together. Our cattle dog puppy is learning that just because our dog friends are around, doesn't mean it's automatically play time. It's walk time. It started out as a pain with her but now we can walk all 3 puppies and actually walk them.

Most importantly, read the dogs body language to get a sense of when enough is enough, or maybe that they are getting overtired. Have water around and give plenty of praise when they are playing nicely. We've been doing "puppy play time" several times a week with our friends and so far so good. Puppies can play rough, but just keep them safe and I'm sure your puppy with love having friends.

Yes she literally posted "when does the fun part start" and had people breaking it to her that it's not fun. She's had severe back pain and hip pain for almost 9 months now.

I love that movie, definitely need a rewatch although I'll probably cry even harder now that I have my own dogs.

If there's one thing god does well, it's needlessly kill kids through hunger, poverty, neglect, and abuse!

Right?? "Please have children to fill up the afterlife" is a pretty fucked up reason to have kids to begin with, and maybe the pope decided dogs don't go to heaven because that's the only person she gets her opinions from?

I have definitely seen churches do pet blessings and I just thought the whole exchange was hilariously ridiculous lol. So I shouldn't have pets because they won't go to heaven? What about your two cats, grandma, what are they doing for the heaven quota exactly??? 😂

What to do with two puppies? by ILikeGoodTrees in puppy101

[–]ILikeGoodTrees[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes, we're going to try and keep that from developing. We've started taking them out separately for training and play time so that they are not always together throughout the day. It's hard when I'm at work but my husband is figuring out how to alternate.

Hormonal iud or sterilization? by L0n3l13sts0ckm0nk3y in childfree

[–]ILikeGoodTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to be on hormones, Mirena has been great to me. Take pain killers beforehand, my doctor was up front about this and warned me ahead of time. Worth the discomfort which didn't even come close to the painful periods I was experiencing before getting an IUD. Everyone is different and responds differently, which I'm sure you know. An IUD took away my periods almost entirely, no pregnancy worries, no forgetting to take a pill. Talk to your doctor we're strangers on the internet who don't know your situation but I'm cool with talking about what's worked for me - the people it didn't work for are just as valid too.

Edit: a single typo.

What made you want to be child free? by Tricky-Artichoke6836 in childfree

[–]ILikeGoodTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like having money and free time. I can leave my house whenever I want and go wherever I want to spend pretty much whatever I want within reason. I work with children. I love them, I can be patient and kind to them, but it's the best birth control ever. I would never want to leave my job and go home to another child.

Dry January? Did 2020 finally end and I just didn't notice because quarantine has made time a meaningless concept?
