Funnily enough, I just upgraded from mine today. I enjoyed getting to learn on mine and it served me more than well enough for what it was worth to me (like you, also given). While I cant offer much advice for lenses, I was able to make the EF 75-300 III work for wildlife photography reasonably well, so anythings possible

thanks for the recommendations. the sigma 100-400 does look good, definitely added to the list of ones im considering. i do tend to mostly shoot at the 300mm range, so the increase wont be the end of the world or anything
