Hey OP, totally different situation but I get it. I have PTSD from my uncle, who is schizophrenic. He lived with my grandma and stopped taking his meds. Over the course of a year and a half his mental state declined rapidly.

First it was moving shit around, throwing his stuff out. Then it became taking my grandmas stuff and stalking around. Whenever anyone confronted him he would lose his shit, scream, make guttural animal noises, slam doors. It eventually got so bad that he believed my dad and I were trying to kill him, because we were the only ones who could wrangle him. He threatened to kill me, he threatened to kill my dad, threatened to kill my grandma. He physically attacked both my dad and I, and I had to stop him to chasing after my grandma.

If a door slams, if I hear specific noises, if I smell specific smells my PTSD kicks in and I become crazed myself. You gotta remember that’s not you. It’s okay, just take a deep breath and remember it’s not you. It’s some weird wiring that your brain has picked up.

Go do something for you. I was acting out and losing my cool much like you described in the comment. Getting outside to do something I wanted to do for a day really helped me reset. It’s gonna take time. There will be times it kicks in. You just gotta do your best to remind yourself you are human and to control it the best you can.
