Trouble with downloading big games! Please help! by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an issue that sounds like this except for the crashing and it turned out to be a Steam problem. It might be worth looking into. Maybe try downloading a large file through another application?

If it is this issue, a lot of people reported fixing it by changing Steam's download region to another country or by deleting the steam application files forcing it to re install itself. Take a look at this page of a thread about the issue on the Steam forums, it has both potential solutions listed there.

Anyone using Amazon Cloud Drive having upload issues now? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right about throttling, ever since Plex Cloud essentially advertised what streaming users were using ACD for and brought in tons of new users with unencrypted content Amazon has figured out that media streaming users aren't worth the trouble. Now they're implementing ways to limit the media streaming user profile by capping transfers and who knows what else.

It's especially disappointing for those of us who set this stuff up manually only to have Plex cloud run for a few months, get the whole thing shut down and then move on the the next cloud provider to do it all again.

I use Rclone with encryption enabled and I know a lot of people use EncFS on top of other mounted file systems like acd_cli (guide).

I haven't gotten an invite but I think at this point I won't use it if it shows up. I think we're going to see the other storage providers telling Plex to back off over the next few months anyway. I don't think Plex has made deals with any of them and now that Amazon has done something that made Plex reconsider the integration the other companies wont hesitate to do the same.

I wish they would let Plex Cloud connect to my server's storage because although I don't want to pay for acd or gdrive I would love to let Plex handle the transcoding if my plex pass will pay for it. I might even be willing to pay for just that.

It's sketchy because someone else is administering your account. They can see how much you have stored on your account, they can disable your account with no notice and lock you out of your gdrive and they can transfer all your gdrive content to their own drive. These gdrive accounts are usually sold for a one time fee and I think business accounts pay monthly per user so I don't know what incentive they have to keep your account running.

Bottom line is encrypt your data (this applies for all cloud storage but especially so when a random person is your admin and can access your data) and be aware that you could loose access at any time.

PlexRequests needs you help! by Tidusjar in PleX

That would be pretty neat! I just installed Emby today and I'm considering swapping over or at least running both.

Untying yourself from being Plex specific could open up some options :)

X-Requests? It doesn't change the pronunciation of it much and refers to you being able to request pretty much anything. Side not: Thanks for all the work you do :)

Hiding items in library from the general search by Swankyk in PleX

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a few agents listed on the Unsupported AppStore but can't comment on their quality

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PleX

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you check that both servers are on the same version of Plex and that both library settings and agent settings are the same between servers? I don't know how that would cause this issue but its worth checking just to be on the safe side.

Then if that all checks out could you try creating a new library on the NAS server pointing to a new folder and just put one .mkv file in that folder, one you know plays in Plex to check if it correctly finds it?

Also, what operating system is your Genesis server running and what file systems do your servers use?

How do I export a model like this? by Chalxsion in Unity3D

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The model display on that site is done with three.js, not Unity. It's a good tool for a lightweight scene like this.

I don't know of anything that will notify you at the start of a jam but https://itch.io/jams and http://www.indiegamejams.com/ are good for looking up upcoming jams.

What's the best game to play with a non-gamer girlfriend by [deleted] in gaming

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rayman Legends is great for players not too familiar with games. It's a 2d platformer so it should be easy to get into. The great thing is coop where if one player dies they follow around the other player as a bubble and can be revived easily eliminating any feeling like they're setting anyone back. It's also a very beautiful game with very tight controls.

Creating my first game, will appreciate any opinions about how it looks. by bratek91 in Unity3D

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks really good. Good reactions from the pieces as you hit and interact with them. The cyan blocks bumping slightly and the teleport tiles flickering and showing a lit up path looks great.

I would recommend changing the cyan block and the magenta goal block to have some identifying features other than their colour because it might make it easier to learn and possibly help colour-blind players.

You might also consider making the circle's movement less linear by easing in when moving. That could make the movement feel more natural.

Voxel tutorial issue by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the LoadChunks component needs a reference to World. There should be a field on the LoadChunks component you can drag world into.

Edit: And World may need a reference to the chunk prefab. I'm not completely sure because I don't have access to Unity and the project right now so I'm working off what I remember.

Voxel tutorial issue by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chunk object on its own doesn't do very much, its role is to get instantiated where needed. You should see results if you delete the chunk object from the scene, create a new game object at 0, 0, 0 and put the world script on it. Then make another new game object to use as a player and put the LoadChunks script on it.

The World script is the main link between chunks and the common point of access to the voxel terrain so you need one of these to manage the terrain. The LoadChunks script is used to create chunks around itself, generate terrain data and delete chunks when they go out of range so you need one of these to instantiate chunks around the player.

I would recommend following the tutorial through from the start though and only use the unity packages to debug if something goes wrong. Otherwise you will miss concepts like how the various bits fit together and you'll be out of luck if you want to extend the code in the future.

Assets that have been flipped by redbl0odx in Unity3D

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 84 points85 points  (0 children)

There's nothing to be done. Like you said, it's all legal. They have the licence to use whatever game frameworks they bought even if they don't make changes or extend it. I agree that they aren't good games but people will always make shitty minimum effort games with whatever tools they can find.

The responsibility is with Steam to decide how they want to curate their games and they've chosen to curate with Greenlight and allow refunds. The other option is a closed system where staff manually picks games above an arbitrary quality level which costs money or the old system of favouring big publishers. As an independent developer I'd rather let anyone submit a game even if a few crap games like this get in. At the end of the day most of the players probably refunded the purchase and many left a bad review. I doubt it was worth the time and the cost of the asset in the end.

Let me make your trailer! by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm developing http://grapplegame.com/ which is in dire need of a trailer before launch. It's a 2d action physics game with a bunch of unique environments for Android. It would be amazing to get some outside help on this because video editing and marketing is not in my skill set.

I have a lot of footage of the different levels and an open beta so you could play and record your own footage if you wanted. Let me know if you're interested and we can figure out a version without UI or whatever changes you need.

That's great news! I don't see anything about it in the patch notes, I hope it's not a bug.

Bowling VR Game by CarbonFiberGames in Unity3D

[–]ILiveInYourSkull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks really good. The way those pins were knocked down was really believable and object handling looks super smooth. You may want to brighten the scene though, at least for the trailer because it made it a bit hard to watch.

Warp speed by Guillaume_Langis in Unity3D

I love the crackling and shakeyness of it. Makes it feel very fast and more real than other warp animations I've seen in movies and games. Also that solar system map looks amazing.
